9 Tips on How to Impress Your Boss

By Peter Sides

Any job is a competition especially when a better salary or a promotion is at stake.

It is very important to do your job well but you will not get very far if your boss is not on your side.

Here are some ways you can make a good impression on your manager.

1. Know your goals

Your goal is to work for the benefit of the company and the objectives it has. In addition your boss's goals must become your goals. If you set your priorities to achieve the results your boss wants to have then you will increase in his eyes immediately.

2. Understand how you are evaluated

Use the feedback you get from time to time on how you do your job and try to see what are the qualities and skills that your manager emphasizes on. Improve them to have a perfect rating and you'll be rewarded for your efficiency.

3. Fulfill your duties

When you are asked to finish a task try to provide the best results possible and don't set your limits to the attributions written in your job description. Prove that you are a person your boss can always rely on. An additional effort from your side will recommend you as a true professional, eager to advance in his career.

4. Be positive

Don't be the one who constantly complains and criticizes your boss on the cigarette breaks. Rather try to be the one that motivates others with his positive energy. If you want to get promoted then you have to prove you're a nice person who knows how to attract others around him.

5. Don't put your boss in delicate situations

Meet the deadlines you have for completing your projects. Also, do your job professionally; try not to be forced to make improvements on your projects and not to be in the position of extending your deadline. Moreover help your boss to come up with new ideas to develop the department you are part of. You will thus become his right hand and a reliable person.

6. Be organized

Do not leave things to chance; before the end of each working day draw up a list of your tasks that you have to complete the following day. Be punctual and respect your own rules to demonstrate once again that you're a person that your boss can rely on.

7. Be informed

Keep up to date with the latest news in your field and attend courses. This way, when you'll come across a complex problem you will be able to find the answer in a creative and innovative way.

8. Be flexible

When a deadline approaches you might experience a change in the working program and might need to work more hours than usual. Do not make a fuss out of it and do not comment on the situation. Try to do your job as good as you can - quickly and efficiently.

9. Leave your personal life at home

Life is hard and we all have bad days sometimes. And no matter where you work it's important to keep your personal problems outside of the workplace.

Leave your intimate life at home and only try to focus on your career. Your boss will surely appreciate your discretion.

As little things make up the big picture, going through this list will help you increase your performance at work and impress your boss along the way. So be smart and grab that upcoming promotion.
