How to Design a Restaurant: The Basics

How to Design a Restaurant: The Basics

By Harry Grace

When designing a restaurant, there are many things to consider. Before starting out on such a large project, however, it is important to understand the basics of good restaurant kitchen design. During the course of this article, we will outline the basic principles of good design. Remember, though, there is no substitute for a good designer, and somewhere along the line, you will have to fork out for some professional help. Knowing the basics, though, will set you in good stead for what can be a very rewarding enterprise.

Do not be rigid in your ideas

Sometimes, you will arrive at the table with a fully formed idea. This, however, is rarely the best way to proceed. Along the way you will develop new ideas; you will find reasons for why your original design fell short of the mark; and you will encounter problems that are insurmountable with the plan you had in mind.

Flexibility is, therefore, the key. It is important that you approach the design with an open mind that you are willing to bend and flex in order to create a design that is unprecedented.

Within the industry, we call this the architectural approach: the design grows with you, and the final result is far better than one that you can sketch out in your mind beforehand. The architectural approach is one that many artists adopt, and to create a masterpiece, you must be willing to step out of the rigidity of fixed plans.

It will also help you to cope when you are met with unexpected, and unanticipated, obstacles.

Basic and simple is the key to good design in the 21st Century

We may have a belief that the more complicated a design, the better it will be when completed. This is wrong; good design is all about simplicity. Everything needs to be cut back to basics: straight lines, solid materials, simple dcor.

Understated is by far the most attractive of all design plans (whether fashion, interior decoration, or large pieces of architecture).

Think about how you want people to move through the kitchen

When running a commercial kitchen, efficiency is of paramount importance. Your staff needs to be able to move freely though the kitchen, without getting in other people's way. The key to this is good, well-thought out, design. You need to think about the busiest areas of the kitchen, and design them logically. For example, it would be silly to have the collection point (the area where the waiters and waitresses pick up the dishes and take them out to the main restaurant to serve) at the back of the kitchen. It needs to be as close to the dining area as possible.

There are plenty of things to consider here, too. You need, for instance, to have preparation areas near to the freezers and ovens of that area. You need the meat worktop to be next to the meat freezer and the ovens. This keeps each section clean and self-contained, and helps to prevent accidents or cross contamination.

There are many considerations to take into account with good restaurant kitchen design and supply, the best thing to do is to talk to the professionals, and you can do that now, at http://www.garnersfoodserviceequipment.co.uk/

How to Give a Speech

How to Give a Speech

By Graeme Renwall

Did you know that more people fear public speaking, than fear death? For many of us, there's something absolutely petrifying about standing in front of a bunch of people and talking. But that doesn't mean we can't overcome these fears and give the speech of a lifetime. Here are some tips to make it happen:

1. Do your homework

Yes, there are people who can seem to wing everything in life-including speeches. And yes, there are times that we may be required to give an impromptu speech. But whenever possible, it's crucial to be prepared as possible.

One of the best ways to prepare for a speech is to use note cards. This will help to cover the main points that you want to make during the speech. Before making the note card, make an outline of what you want to say. Then create the note cards based on that outline.

2. Make eye contact

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who looked at his or her feet the whole time? You've probably also experienced a person looking away while you were talking-as if they needed to escape your dull conversation. The moral of the story is that eye contact is important when talking with someone -including when you're giving a speech.

Depending on how large the audience is, it will likely be impossible to make eye contact with everyone in the room. That's okay! If you can't look at every single person, then look at particular sections of the audience. And if need to glance at your note cards, make sure that your eyes don't become glued to them. By making eye contact with your audience, it will be easier to keep their attention.

3. Avoid coffee and cigarettes before smoking

Many people feel like coffee will pump them up for a speech or that cigarettes will calm their nerves. In fact, both caffeine and nicotine are stimulants. While they can give you a boost of energy, they can also make your body jittery and your mind race. Of course, that's not the ideal condition to be in when giving a speech.

4. Chat before you speak

Perhaps one of the problems we have when giving speeches, is our perception of the activity itself. If you think about it, it's somewhat like a conversation you'd have with a friend or relative-except that you'll be the exclusive talker and the audience will be the exclusive listener. So to loosen up before your speech, chat with someone you know about the weather or another light topic. That will help to put your mind at ease before you start your speech.

5. Breathe deeply

When we get nervous, our breaths get shorter. One way to reduce your anxiety before a speech is to concentrate on breathing deeply. Inhale deeply, and then count from one-to-ten as you exhale slowly. This will improve blood and oxygen circulation throughout your body.

While giving speeches is a part of life, you don't have to be scared to death about it. These tips will help to make your speech less frightening and more effective.

How To Face An Interview

How To Face An Interview

By Benjamin Brumm

The Aim Of An Interview
The first thing to consider for a job interview is to have a think about the purpose of an interview. A job interview is where a representative of the company meets with you to establish several things:

  • If you are capable of doing the job in question
  • If you are a good fit for the company
  • If the salary expectations of both of you are similar

You need to be able to go in and prove the first two points. The first point, being capable to do the job, comes down to how well you match the job description and the role being offered. Obviously, you wouldn't be there if you didn't think you had the skill for the job! This point, however, is more about the recruiter trying to determine if you can do the job well enough for the company and will fit the role that has been advertised.

The second point is where the recruiter tries to determine if you will be a good cultural fit for the company. Culture is a big part of workplaces these days, and it basically translates to the environment and personality of workers and the company as a whole. If the company values creativity highly, then they will want to see this in you. The same goes for teamwork, intuition, hard-working, dedication, and any number of qualities.

The third point, the salary expectation, is a little different and actually has room for negotiation. I'll write more about this in a future post, but if your expectations don't match the recruiter's, then one of you will need to adjust or the job offer won't go ahead.

How Do I Meet These Criteria For An Interview?
So, we've highlighted a couple of points that form the basis of an interview. Now it's time to work out how we can turn the odds in our favour and learn how to face an interview.

Research and Be Prepared
One of the most important parts of the interview process is actually researching the company you're applying for. This is more than just the name of the company and the location they're based in. You should learn more about their mission, the type of workplace they have, what their workplace demands are, what their main projects or products are, who their main clients or customers are. All this information will help you in the interview process, by showing how thorough you are with your work and how much you want the job at the company you're going for. It will also help you adjust your interview technique to make sure you're a good fit for the company. You can talk up various characteristics of yourself that match the company's values. For example, if you're a bit of a perfectionist and find out the company values high quality products, you can mention that you're perfectionist attitude results in good quality work.

Have Confidence
Nothing beats confidence in a social situation. Well, maybe a few things in an interview, like topic knowledge, but having confidence goes a long way to getting a job. This isn't just confidence of getting the job - it's confidence in your own skills, confidence in your speaking ability, confidence in the company you're going for. If you act and speak with confidence, you'll come across as someone who knows what they are doing and what they want, which will increase your chances of the recruiter offering you the job!

Be Polite And Professional
Manners and politeness are one of the most important parts of an interview. The way you act before, during, and after the interview will say a lot about who you are as a person and will be included in the recruiter's assessment of your application. Make sure you smile when you greet the interviewer, and stay calm. There's no need to panic during the interview. If you're not sure about a particular question that the interviewer asks, you can ask them for clarification. It's better to ask for clarification that to make something up and get noticed as someone who doesn't know what they're talking about!

I try to remember these points whenever I go for an interview, and I like to think it helps my chances of landing the job.

How to Collect Celebrity Autographs

How to Collect Celebrity Autographs

By Lydia Cooper

Nowadays, lots of us are interested in the fascinating world of celebrity. We all have our favourite celebrity whether it be a sports personality, a TV presenter or a film star. If you've ever wanted to collect the signatures of your favourite celebrities then this short guide will take you through the process of getting autographs through the post. All it takes is a carefully worded letter to your chosen celebrity making a request for their autograph. Getting celebrity autographs in the post is the perfect way to start building an autograph collection to be proud of.

First of all you need to decide which celebrities you are interested in approaching in order to start your collection. Once you have made a list of all the celebrities you are interested in writing to, you should visit a website such as fanmail.biz as this site holds thousands of celebrity addresses for you to use. It also has a feedback forum where users can let others know if they got a result or not. Sites like fanmail are free and by joining the forum you can get some great tips from people interested in the same things as you!

It may sound obvious, but is always better to have a genuine interest in the celebrity you are writing to as this will make the letter seem a lot more genuine. However, you do need to keep in mind that your favourite celebrity is probably very busy and probably gets lots of autograph requests in the post everyday so be patient. To increase the chances that the celeb will read your letter you should make your letter as positive and genuine as possible. If a celebrity can see that you are just looking to score a quick signature and don't really care about them or their career then they are less likely to send you what you want.

While showing a genuine interest in the celebrity is important, it is not advised to ramble on in your letter as this could bore the celeb and they may not even finish your letter! It is better to keep the letter short, concise and to the point. It sounds obvious but remember to ask the celebrity for what you want. For example, make sure that if you want an autograph, ask. If you would like the autograph to be personalised then ask.

Once you have written your letter, use the address you have found on the internet to make sure it reaches them. Make sure you put sufficient postage on the outside of the envelope as you don't want the celebrity to have to pay to get the letter or for it not to reach them at all.

Make sure you include a self-addressed stamped envelope as this will make it easier for the celeb to send an autograph to you. Again, make sure you have provided sufficient postage. You may also want to include any picture or item that you want signed.

Finally, be patient. You may only have to wait for your celebrity autograph for a few days but in some cases it may take a few years! Try not to get discouraged; remember how busy they must be and how many other fans they have.

For more information and to browse through a collection of authentic celebrity autographs then why not visit Genuine Memorabilia's website.

How to Easily Get to Sleep

How to Easily Get to Sleep

By Trevor Johnson

Let's face it, counting sheep doesn't often cut it when you want to easily get to sleep. You spend more time concentrating on the wooly creatures than you do falling to sleep. Here are some techniques that will help you to get to sleep easily without resorting to pills and potions.

Give yourself some unwind time

Your mind doesn't have an on/off switch. It needs time to slow down. So if it's still buzzing when you decide to go off to bed, it just won't play ball.

It needs time to calm down.

Give yourself 30 to 60 minutes relax time before you go to bed. You'll find that you're rewarded with a much better night's sleep.

Get a routine

Your body is a creature of habit. Which means that it likes to do things at certain times.

Take a look at your daily routine and see how much of it really does fit a pattern.

Your sleep times should be just as ritualized. Sure, there can be some variation so you can stay up and watch that late movie every now and then.

But as a general option, keep your bed time roughly the same most nights.

Your body will then get used to the idea that at a certain time you're in bed and that soon after that you're in the land of dreams.

Cut out background noise if possible

Some noises you have control over, others are external and you can't do much - if anything - about them.

Any noises and buzzes from stuff around the house need addressing. It could simply be a matter of closing another door to give that extra distance from the noises in question.

External noises are less easy to deal with and you may have to settle for masking them with some extra noise of your own. This is easy to do if you sleep alone, a lot less easy if you share your room with a partner.

But if you - or both of you - can cope with some low level extra background noise that could be a good solution. Whale sounds, rainfall, ambient music, whatever works for you. You can even get pillows with built in speakers nowadays,

Go dark

Historically we slept in the dark, give or take some moonlight or twinling stars. There's so much light pollution nowadays that we need to counteract it.

Blackout curtains or curtain liners are inexpensive but they only work for external lights.

Chances are that you've got other lights in your bedroom - your alarm clock, the standby lights that glow, that kind of thing. Take the time to cover up these extra sources so that your bedroom is as close to pitch black as possible.

Use hypnosis

There are hypnosis downloads out there which will help you to drift off to sleep easily.

They have several advantages over other techniques - they're a one-off cost, they come with built in relaxation and someone else is doing the hard work of concentrating on what needs to be said, leaving you with just one task: easily getting to sleep.

Get more help with how to get to sleep easily and check out these ideas to fall asleep quicker.

How to Stop Hair From Falling Out and Prevent Baldness - 7 Tips For Women

How to Stop Hair From Falling Out and Prevent Baldness - 7 Tips For Women

By Kathrine Maston

There are 35 million men and 21 million women who are suffering from hair loss, according to the Relevant Research, Inc. They are the ones who see lots of hair strands on their pillow, bathroom floor, comb, etc. While not all of these cases lead to complete baldness, the patches that are visible can be disturbing and can damage the person's self-esteem. Here is how to stop hair from falling out.

1. Check Your Combing Habits

Some people who suffer from excessive hair loss do not want to comb their hair anymore because after a few strokes their comb will have dozens of strands. If this happens to you, check your combing habits and change it to reduce hair fall. Choose comb with wide tooth. Get a wooden comb if you can.

Comb mildly. Be gentler to your hair if it is wet. Hair, when wet, is very vulnerable. Do not force tangled hair to be combed with just a stroke. Use your fingers to detangle hair.

2. Put Vitamins and Nutrients

You should be able to find hair vitamins and nutrients in gel form. Choose one that's safe and mild. Follow direction for use. You should also supply your hair follicles with more vitamins and nutrients through your diet. More protein in your diet can also help since hair is made by a certain type of protein called keratin. A protein shake may be a good addition to your daily diet.

3. Improve Blood Flow through Massage

When hair is detangled and has vitamins, try to spend 10 minutes massaging the scalp. Regular massage will help improve blood flow. It can help the follicles to produce healthier hair. To massage scalp, use two to three fingers and move them in a circular motion as you move slowly across your scalp.

4. Get Rid of Stress

Hair fall is also caused by stress so get rid of it if you can. Do some relaxing activities like yoga. Get enough sleep. When you are stressed, your mane also gets stressed causing mane thinning and/or hair fall. Relaxation is definitely one of the techniques on how to stop mane from falling out.

5. Avoid Hairstyles That Cause Hair Fall

Keep your mane free. The ideal style is a free flowing hair. If it looks messy, consider using a headband, a loose pony tail, or wobbly braids. Avoid tight ponytails and wearing hats all the time.

6. Avoid Smoking and Alcohol

Smoking can also affect your mane. The smoke does not only make your mane dirty. It also weakens mane follicles triggering mane fall. Alcohol and carbonated sodas should also be taken in a minimal amount.

7. Get Regular Trims

Trimming your mane regularly may not make your mane grow faster but it cannot remove the split ends and prevent them from becoming worse.

Hair fall is due to weak roots caused by stress, poor blood flow, and vices. How to stop hair from falling out should deal with the causes. Avoid stress and vices. Improve blood flow on your head through massage. Get regular trims, comb gently, and avoid hair styles that stress the hair. Have more protein in your diet and apply vitamin gels to your hair.

Finally, Are you sick and tired of suffering from hair loss, thinning hair and premature graying hair and you might have tried everything in a desperate attempt to revitalize your hair but with no permanent result? If after having exhausted all possibilities and still you are left with no solutions to your hair loss, then check out...

How to Choose Wedding Color Schemes

How to Choose Wedding Color Schemes

By Steven Barnhart

One of the first decisions that a bride and groom make is the wedding color scheme for their big day. Although this is not usually a high priority decision for the man, it is in fact a decision that will guide the rest of the wedding, from the type of flowers to the design of the tables and the clothes that people wear.

How to Choose Wedding Color Schemes

The first thing that you should be aware of with any color scheme is that this is a rather large decision that should be made with care. Your bridesmaids will probably be wearing this color, so you should be fully aware of who they are and what they look like before you choose a color. Although it seems that every bride likes to put her bridesmaids in horrendous outfits, there should be a limit to your meanness.

There are some standard color schemes that will allow you to never go wrong. For instance, white and gold or white and silver allow everyone to look elegant. These metallic color schemes also take away the worry of you having to decide on a particular shade of a color for each and every item.

Multiple Colors

There is certainly no rule that says that wedding color schemes with multiple colors should be out of bounds. If you are having a springtime wedding, then you might want "Easter egg" colors, such as light pink, yellow, green, or blue. This can give a refreshing and casual look to a wedding.

However, if you are getting married in the summer or fall, those colors might look completely out of place. A winter wedding's colors may be darker and richer, but you can certainly have greens and reds, purples and greens, or even browns in your wedding color schemes.

Decide Upon a Shade

Saying that your wedding will be "white and blue" doesn't do anyone any favors. You need to decide on a particular shade of blue. A wedding planner or designer will show you the shades of blue that are the most popular and that will cause you the least amount of problems down the line. Generally speaking, when you choose a lighter color with a lighter shade, you will have fewer problems trying to match it.

What Are Other People Using?

One way to learn more about wedding color schemes is to look through bridal magazines or online. You will see that some colors go in and out of fashion while others are always in style. Light pinks and yellows are always popular, while the darker, bolder colors tend to come and go depending on the time of year.

It is important that you remember that your decision will likely affect the cost of your entire wedding, especially when it comes to flowers. So talk to a florist first to determine which color scheme is most affordable from a floral point of view and that should give you some guidance on what you should be choosing for the rest of your wedding.

Planning your wedding and seeing red because you can't decide your wedding color scheme? The best idea is to talk to the wedding professionals to get some ideas. Then let your mouse do the walking online!

How To Landscape Patios And Small Gardens

By Bill Watson

Due to the small area available to some homeowners and apartment dwellers, patios and small gardens may seem like a challenge to landscape.

What follows are a few simple tips and strategies designed to maximize space, and help you create a lush and vibrant outdoor living area.

Container Gardening

Examine your patio or small garden, and you will probably see nothing but straight lines and right angles.

One trick used by professional landscapers is to “soften" these lines, or “round" the corners with vines or trees grown in large containers and placed tightly against walls, in corners, or at the edge of patios.

A good rule of thumb is the old adage, “There are no straight lines in nature". While many people may enjoy a more formal or symmetrical landscape, small gardens tend to benefit from a more natural, less structured design.

Both large and small, containers come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and designs. By placing a small tree, vine, or flowering shrub, planted in a large container in a corner, and placing around it a variety of smaller plants in pots and containers, you can create a multi-tiered effect with a great deal of texture and color.

In addition, you can achieve the same affect along walls or the edge of a patio.

Imagine a painters canvas, taller objects will stand in the background with progressively shorter objects working their way into the foreground. This creates a sense of depth, and in smaller gardens this can give the illusion of more depth than actually exists.

One method used to create this illusion of depth, is to employ plants with darker foliage (greens or purples) in the background and place plants with multi-colored, or variegated leaves ("variegated" is a horticultural term for plants who's leaves naturally possess more than one color), or brightly colored flowers in the foreground.

Vines, grown in a large container, and trained to cover walls or a trellis, will allow you to cover large areas of your "canvas" and still maximize space in smaller gardens or patios. This will also serve to soften, the rigid box-like feel of smaller areas.

Also, a small, self-contained fountain, waterfall or pond placed against walls, or in corners, can become a focal point, or point of interest from which to build out from.

Low growing plants with multi-colored foliage (variegated), are excellent choices for small gardens. These types of plants, many possessing leaves with striking reds, creams, and pleasant shades of green all on a single leaf, can add interest, variety, and texture to areas where they are planted.

Many plants referred to as "house-plants" will have variegated foliage or interesting flowers. Most house-plants are native to tropical or semi-tropical regions of the world and in warm-winter areas will do well outside year-round.

Most house-plants tend to be shade-loving and so do best in shade gardens or beneath larger plantings. In regions with heavy frost or snow, you will need to bring the plant indoors until the weather warms again.

Dwarf varieties of trees are an excellent choice for large pots or ground planting in small gardens.

There are literally hundreds of fruiting or flowering dwarf varieties available to the home gardener. Many will also possess leaves with interesting shapes, patterns, or colors, that are sure to add interest and variety to any landscape.

Patio Trees: The term, Patio Tree, is used to describe trees that are generally small, as trees go, and are also quite attractive at close range. Their branches will not shed annoying quantities of leaves, or drop messy fruit that will litter, or stain patio surfaces.

In addition, all will have “tame" root systems that do well in large containers, or if planted in the ground will not crack pavement or greedily take water and nutrients from surrounding plants.

Finally, fragrant herbs and low-growing plants with colorful flowers make good choices for containers in small gardens. (e.g., Gardenias, Lavender, Jasmine).

Tips on planting in containers

When planting in containers, remember that the root system, cannot search beyond the container for food and water. This means the plant will be totally dependent on the nutrients and water you provide.

Remember to always use a good quality potting soil, and add an appropriate amount of granulated or slow-release fertilizer when planting.

All plants grown in containers will over time, need an application of a good quality liquid fertilizer. Also, when planting in containers, pack the potting soil in tightly to ensure there are no air pockets, or voids that could harm the roots.

Finally, always choose a container with drainage holes in the bottom. Without good drainage, fertilizer salts will build up in the soil and can then harm the plant.

Container gardening is an excellent way to maximize space, and enliven

small gardens or patios.

A wide array of plants suitable for container culture are available to the home gardener, and with a little care and planning are sure to enrich any outdoor living space.

The types of patio trees available to you will depend upon which area or region of the country you live in. Some options include:

Acer (Maple): Patio types are: Acer buergeranum (Trident Maple), A. cercinatum (Vine Maple), A. davidii (David's Maple), A. palmatum (Japanese Maple).

Lagerstroemia Indica (Crepe Myrtle): with attractive foliage and large clusters of flowers that can range in color from pink to cranberry to a deep or hot red depending upon variety.

Magnolias: available in many regions both hot and cool, have showy displays of tulip to saucer-shaped flowers with a wide selection of colors.

Prunus: (Flowering Cherry) (Flowering Plum).

Dwarf Citrus: such as lemon, lime or orange, make good additions to small gardens and tend to hold their fruit for many months.

Good Luck and Happy Gardening!

How to Landscape Your Yard and Increase Your Property Value

How to Landscape Your Yard and Increase Your Property Value

By Shivraj Ghorpade

Tips to Increase Property Value by Landscaping Your Yard

This article will give you step-by-step directions on how you can give your yard the curb appeal that will make your front yard look appealing to both potential buyers and the neighbors, and of course, at low cost.

Do you have a shabby looking yard? Maybe you are moving and don't want to spend a fortune on some curb appeal. You do not need to spend a fortune to fix up your yard and increase the value of your property. There are many simple steps that can help you achieve this objective.

The neighborhood eyesore

Every neighborhood has that ugly "eyesore" and the neighbors usually get rather irate over that eyesore. In some cases, even local municipal governments get involved in eyesore complaints and disputes. Perhaps you are the neighborhood eyesore and you want to correct the problem, but are on a low budget. That's not a problem.

By following the simple steps, you can turn your eyesore to the talk of the neighborhood.

1. Clean up debris and old junk from your yard. If you have any rusted items lying around your yard, take them to the recycling plant. That's not only a way to get rid of them but you can make some extra cash also.

2. Rake up leaves and remove any other natural debris that has accumulated in your yard over the years. Piles of leaves that have been lingering in your yard can easily be removed using a tarp. You can also rent a powerful push blower to do the job. If you have a fireplace, inside or outside, or a grill, you can pick up the fallen tree branches and cut them up for use in your fireplace or grill.

3. Fixing your lawn can cost some money depending on how damaged it is. If it is too bad for you, then you can find some nice flowering bushes and grasses and plant them in esthetically suitable places and cover what used to be the lawn with mulch.

4. Remove unsightly weeds from unused planters, flower pots and flower beds. Once you have removed the weeds, clean out the planters and flower beds and mix the indigenous soil with a mixture of peat and good potting soil to prepare for planting.

5. Buy some plants to fill your flower beds. You have a wide range of options for flowers.

a. Perennials are flowers that come up every year. You can get perennials that can bloom at all different times of the year. For example, daffodils, narcissi, tulips, hyacinths and jonquils are perennials that grow in the spring. You can get day lilies, tiger lilies, herber daisies and others that bloom in late spring to early to mid summer.

Hostas are also a great garden specimen and require very little maintenance. Hostas are usually grown for their beautiful foliage, some hostas do have flowers that can be white or various shades of purple that bloom in either early or mid summer.

Sedums are a great autumn flower. They grow throughout the summer and bloom in the fall. In the winter, they dry out and the flower holds its shape until spring when the dead stalks need to be removed for the new growth to grow unhindered.

b. Annuals are flowers that need to be replaced every winter. You have a wide array of annuals to choose from that can make your yard gorgeous during the entire summer. Some of the best annuals and most affordable are impatiens and coleus. These flowers can convert your yard into an explosion of color. This especially applies to coleus. Coleuses are well-known for their colorful foliage and come in many different varieties.

To improve your landscape, you can also plant grasses. Ornamental grasses do not break the bank account and some of them are absolutely stunning. The one thing with grasses is that some varieties need a lot of water, so you should keep that in mind. You can get grasses that grow very tall and you can get others that do not grow very high. This is great for areas where you can plant the tall grasses in the back and the lower grasses in front.

Keep unused equipment out of site from places that are seen from the street. When you are done working in your yard, take the wheelbarrow and hide it behind the shed, garage or house. Your gardening tools should be kept in either your shed or garage when not in use. Do not leave them strewn all over your yard.

Keep bushes and hedges pruned all the time. The best way to do this is by buying some power clippers. If you don't have any, clip the bushes and hedges as you see them begin to lose their shape. There are many bushes such as the Japanese yew and boxwoods that need to be trimmed and pruned for esthetic purposes. In fact yew are very affordable and are so easy to shape. You can have a yew shaped as a cube, a ball or a unique shape and it will always look good.

There are many reasons people do not have the ideal yard. Many people fear that giving their yard a facelift can be problematic or hiring a professional landscaper is costly, but you can do some simple landscaping by yourself and get everything you need from your local home and garden store.

Furthermore, some of your big home and garden stores have people who can help you design your own landscape and guide you in buying plants. This eliminates the cost of hiring a landscape architect and spending on thousands of dollars on a small yard which you can do by yourself.

How to Choose Wonderful Modern Bathroom Mirrors?

By Heather Mitchell

The latest modern bathrooms are equipped with not only the necessary plumbing, but also all kinds of interior details that give to the room individuality and original look.

The main functional part of the bathroom besides the obvious bathroom vanity is the vanity mirror. This familiar household item helps us to direct the beauty and fine in conjunction with the space of a bathroom, expanding its space and create a beautiful decorative effect.

So, how to choose right a vanity mirror? Don't worry, it's not rocket science. But here are a few guidelines for you to follow when you go to make your selection.

All mirrors are made of a single technology, but the coating on the reverse side can be different, depending on the destination mirror. Thus, the mirror for the bathroom and other rooms are different from each other. Conventional mirrors for the rooms are cheap because they have a simple finishing. A bathroom mirrors have a special water-resistant coating, which allows you to carry frequent changes in temperature and high humidity and allows the mirrors to stand the test of time. Pay attention to what the mirror itself is manufactured from as well as the frame. Both pieces are of equal importance when you are looking for something with durability.

For the cheaper variety mirror such tests are unlikely to survive. With heat and humidity, there is always a problem with cracking or warping to the mirrors frame. None of which are good things if you'd like the mirror to stay in that spot forever. The rear cover can be multilayer and made from resin; it prevents the peeling of the amalgam and water penetration. The most durable mirrors have a silver finish rather than the aluminum amalgam. In addition, the process of manufacturing the mirrors requires use of expensive equipment and high quality raw materials, which is why such mirrors are more expensive. In addition, due to high humidity, this mirror is best placed in a stainless metal or plastic frame. That's not to say though that all wood or MDF mirrors are bad though. Some have been specially treated to withstand such elements. The bottom line is: Do your homework.

The main place for a mirror is obviously over the sink. It is best if it is stretched vertically and is fixed on hinges to adjust the angle of inclination. With this, you get more of a complete "picture". It is also very useful if the main mirror is attached to the additional small mirror on the handle that allows you to see yourself from behind. Do not feel limited by these constraints, however. You can add mirrors to other places in addition to over a vanity in a large bathroom to give the appearance of space or simply as simple, stunning accents.

Vanity mirror with shelf

The mirror for the bathroom - it is not just a stylish piece of furniture, but also a very practical thing. Many models are equipped with additional mirrors, functional devices. For example, mirrors are often provided with special small shelves, which can comfortably accommodate the necessary things: creams, lotions, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other toiletries. Whether you need it for storage or simply as a decorative accent, a modern mirror can do wonders for any bathing space.

How India's Mission to Be the #1 Medical Tourism Destination Can Benefit You

How India's Mission to Be the #1 Medical Tourism Destination Can Benefit You

By Jay Siva

The Medical Tourism Council (MTC) of Maharashtra has a mission of making India the #1 medical tourism destination in the world. The members are working diligently to bring together corporate interests in both the medical sector and the tourism sector. The vision is to offer world class medical services to foreigners in a land that offers exotic vacations as well.

Countries such as India have been quick to recognize that the Western world is not providing timely and affordable medical care to its citizens. In both the United States and Canada, it is not uncommon to wait for more than 4 months to be seen after a referral is made. Then, there is more waiting time while tests are scheduled. Additional time passes waiting for the test results. If the result is that there is a need for a procedure, it could be several more weeks before surgery is scheduled. Non emergency medical attention may be extended for up to two years. There is basically no wait time in foreign countries such as India.

The MTC is targeting several Western markets. One of those is the 43 million uninsured in the United States. What happens to the average person from a developed country, who is uninsured and in need of a heart bypass? If not aware of the option of medical tourism, the uninsured worker will face the choice of going without the surgery, or of withdrawing his life savings, or taking out a loan in order to pay for the surgery. The same worker can obtain the surgery in another country for $10,000 vs. $70,000 in the US. He can get a knee replacement for $6,000 vs. $50,000! Although still a large amount of money, it is much more attainable abroad than in the home country. The cost of services in India is approximately 1/3 less than other Asian countries that are competing as the destination of choice for medical tourists.

The Medical Tourism Council is also doing heavy marketing campaigns to Western insurance companies. More and more, it is the insurance agent who suggests (and in some instances, mandates) having the surgery done in another country. An increasing number of insurance companies are not only agreeing to overseas medical services, but are advocating or insisting that the patient obtain the less expensive services as a medical tourist. They are recognizing that outsourcing medical services to India will save tens of thousands of dollars in payouts, even if they need to pay airfare in addition to the medical bills.

The Indian Finance Minister recognizes that the opportunity exists to rebuild the infrastructure of the country, by generating medical tourism revenue. While the MTC is busy marketing, the government of India is working to ensure that state of the art facilities are built and that accreditations are secured. India is experiencing a medical tourism growth rate of 15-20% annually, and it is anticipated that 2.3 billion in revenue will be generated by 2012. The monies can then be used to provide a better lifestyle, including medical services, to the citizens of India who are living in poverty. It is anticipated that the flourish in the medical tourism industry will provide 40 million jobs to Indians.

India has long since been recognized for its top education systems. The universities are producing between 20,000 and 30,000 new doctors and nurses a year, designed to staff the state of the art hospitals across the country. Upon graduation, many travel to developed countries for further training. In the past, many of the graduates who have left their homeland to work in the developed countries have not returned to India. They have continued practicing in the developed nations, choosing to reap the benefits of the high salaries that countries such as the U.S. offer. The trend is reversing and now many of the doctors who have practiced as some of the top surgeons and specialists in developed countries are now returning to set up specialty clinics and hospitals. India now offers over 200 specialty services and is recognized worldwide to be on par with the best in the world.

The medical tourist destined for India need only decide which part of India they would like to visit and recover in. For those wanting the hustle and bustle of city life, a destination would be Delhi. Agra offers the medical tourist one of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal. Rajasthan borders the Thar Desert and has a history of romance and heroism. Goa is the home of miles of golden sand beaches and palm trees, and Kerela is the location of the networking of forty four rivers. Muntui (Bombay) is the equivalent to Hollywood in the United States and is the finance capitol of India. For those wanting to absorb the cultural mecca of India, with music and world class art, coffee and fragrances, one would want to travel to Karnataka, in South India.

The collaborative goal, powered by the vision of the Medical Tourism Council, is to make India the number one destination choice in the global medical community. The low costs and high quality services, the education of world renowned doctors, the cutting edge technology, the state of the art resort type hospitals and the beautiful vacation spots are all being highlighted by the MTC, and India is quickly moving to the forefront of the global medical tourism industry!
