Twitter Much? 7 Reasons "Why" You Should Tweet
By Joseph Robertson
Critics will tell you that Twitter is a wasteland of "tweets" simply blurting-out viewing, eating or travel habits, (and yes, many do)...
However, what these same critics do not tell you is why so many of the "informed" are using Twitter to "stay-in-the-know" on issues from "pop-culture" to "foreign policy".
Consider these 7 Reasons "Why" You Should Tweet...
1) The Price is Right ... "Free"
It costs nothing to signup and start tweeting and you can be online with a "micro-blog" in minutes and communicating with friends, family or work colleagues.
2) Simple, Intuitive and Accessible
Twitter is easier to use than email. A very "intuitive" medium where you will instantly be able to join or follow a conversation. Plus, anywhere and anyhow you can get access to the internet... you can get access to your Twitter account.
3) Endless Support and Twitter Apps
You can get desktop, cell phone, email, picture applications and support for them Free. Yes, more "free" associated with Twitter. Some of the better applications are Twitpic, Tweetdeck, Twitterfeed and Twhirl.
The user experience is being enhanced by these brilliant programmers much like what has happened with WordPress over the years. The innovation is growing as fast as Twitter itself.
4) Twitter Growth Rate
Mashable in March 2009 reported "a staggering 1392%" growth rate year over year February. Not Bad! So, ride the wave because you will get traffic and attention... like it or not.
5) Social Barrier Breaker / Business Networking
Within the "Twitterverse" is a diverse group of "tweeters". These include the publicized "celebs" and also the less know decision makers of some of the worlds biggest, most influential organizations.
Master Twitter and you have a way to by-pass the "gatekeeper" and interact with "the man" or "the woman"...
Also, a great way to keep your ear-to-the-ground on what is happening in the realm of your expertise.
6) Business / Personal "Branding"
You twitter account becomes an extension of you or your company and a great way to define them. (For better or worse.) You have free access to millions and can choose how you want to interact.
7) "Staying in the Know" / Real-Time News
There are so many sources of great information on Twitter. No matter what your interests.
Time and again I get the heads-up on an event happening "half way round the world" and it is in "real-time" and "un-filtered". A person or reporter (even an "official") on the scene may shoot off a Tweet and if you are following... then, instantly you are there.
No doubt the list could be tripled and still not scratch the surface of this phenomenon known as "Twitter".
So jump in and find out for yourself... BUT... Be careful, because as great a tool as Twitter is... it is also... Addictive!
