Children love to cook just a much as grown-ups do, especially when there’s sweets, chocolate, and other fun ingredients involved. Here are some of the most popular children’s cake recipes – sure to be a big hit amongst your little cooks!
1. Critter Shaped Cakes
This is a very basic cake, with a very amusing twist. First, let the kids decide which animal they’d like to make. An animal with easy recognisable shapes, like a koala for instance, works best. Use any instant cake mix and bake a simple sheet cake. Next, cut out the simplified animal shapes individually and arrange on a larger dish. Then comes the fun part, decorating your cake! Children can use gum drop candies for eyes and noses, licorice for whiskers, and sprinkles and colored icing to resemble the animal’s fur.

This is a classic recipe with a few fun additions that your kids will love. Simply melt down the butterscotch in a microwave and stir in the peanut butter until blended completely. Add in the marshmallows and chow mein noodles, stirring gently as to not break the noodles. On a wax or freezer paper lined sheet pan, arrange the mixture into little haystacks and refrigerate, then serve.

This cake is made just like brownies, except on a larger scale. Just bake up some brownies, throwing in any nuts you wish. Let kids select the miniature chocolate bars and simply melt them down in a microwave. Drizzle over your brownie cake, and top with bits of remaining miniature chocolate bars. This recipe also works on a smaller scale, which is great for parties as each child can create their own custom cake using mini chocolate bars of their choice

For a sweet but healthy children's cake try Dessert Pizza. This recipe calls for sugar cookie dough crust, fresh fruits, and softened cream cheese. Bake up your cookie dough in a circular pizza pan. Mix up the cream cheese with some confectioner’s sugar, and then spread the mixture onto your “pizza pie.” Kids have a blast decorating this cake like a real pizza. Select fresh fruits like pineapples, oranges, peach slices, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberry halves. Slice the cake into wedges and serve.
