Hanging Stockings: The practice of hanging stockings over the fireplace on Christmas Eve comes from England. The legend of St. Nicholas has it that the latter was a kind saint who was believed to have left gifts of gold coins in the stockings of three poor maidens, who badly needed the money for their wedding dowries. They hung their stockings to dry over the fireplace, and to their great surprise, they found bags of gold in them the next morning. Following this, children kept hanging Christmas stockings over the fireplace on Christmas Eve in the hope that Santa would drop gifts and toys in them !

Christmas Carols: The first carols are said to have been sung by angelic choirs at Christ's birth. St.Francis of Assissi is also accredited as the 'Father of Caroling'. The word 'carol' comes from the Greek 'charaulein', a Greek dance, later replaced by song. By the 17th century, caroling was restricted to Christmas time, and now, it's customary for kids to go caroling in groups from door to door, singing favorites such as "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing", "O Come All Ye Faithful", "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and many more !

Holly Boughs: The boughs of holly are another very important symbol of Christmas. These are red berries with thorny leaves. To the Christians, the holly berries symbolize Christ's blood and the sharply pointed leaves stand for the thorns in His crown. Henceforth, the holly became part of the Nativity tradition.

The Nativity Scene: The Nativity Scene includes the scene at Bethlehem, when Jesus was born. The manger, the swaddling clothes, the bright star in the sky, the shepherds surrounding baby Jesus and the Three Wise Men (the Magi) form part of the scene.

The Poinsettia: Poinsettias are beautiful winter blooms, native to Mexico. They've been named after the first US ambassador to Mexico, Joel Roberts Poinsett, who brought the plant from its land of origin to America. Since the beginning of the 19th century, poinsettias have come to be associated with Christmas.

Eggnog: Eggnog, a very popular Christmas drink, is prepared by mixing cream, milk, sugar and beaten eggs with some kind of liquor. This has a close connection to the Christmas holiday, and on Christmas Eve, it's fairly common to spot groups of people eggnogging at their neighbors' and friends' places. People also gather round the Christmas tree, drinking eggnog and then move from house to house caroling.

The Yule Log: The yule log is a huge log used to light up big fires during festive celebrations. It originated in Europe, where it used to be placed in the hearth and continued to burn throughout the year, till it turned into ashes. Bringing in the yule log was as much a custom during the Christmas holidays as was decorating the Christmas tree. The yule log is generally placed in the fireplace. It's from this yule log that Christmas also came to be known as 'Yuletide'.

Boxing Day: The day after Christmas is known as the Feast of St. Stephens. The alms box of the Church was opened on Boxing Day, and the contents, known as the "dole of the Christmas box" were distributed by the parish priest among the needy. Bullet to the Head (2013) Movie Review

Bullet to the Head is a fast paced old school action film. It recalls the days of the endless string of somewhat cheesy, but fun action packed crime thrillers of the 80's to 90's. The action scenes, the bad guys, the buddy relationship, and the simple plot will remind you of films such as, 48 Hours, Red Heat, Showdown in Little Tokyo, Hard Boiled, Faceoff, and the Lethal Weapon movies. Sylvester Stallone continues his recent good track record of films he began with Rocky Balboa, Rambo, and The Expendables movies.

He is his usual charming, charismatic, and bad ass self in Bullet to the Head. Sylvester Stallone's role in Bullet to the Head is similar to the tough character he played in the Get Carter remake. The James (Bobo) Bonomo character is cold and will not hesitate to kill his targets, but he also has a good side to him. He really tries to be a good father for his daughter Lisa in Bullet to the Head.

Sylvester Stallone looks great for a 66 year old man. Stallone looks like he is in even better shape than much younger actor Jason Mamoa. He shows you he still can be a powerful and intimidating presence. In Bullet to the Head with his hardened exterior and energy he brings to the action scenes, Stallone still has a lot to offer as an action movie hero. His partner in Bullet to the Head, played by Sung Kang has excellent chemistry with Stallone. Their buddy relationship is amusing at times as they both exchange sarcastic, witty, and funny one liners.

The relationship between them is one of the main factors that makes this film a decent watch. Sung Kang as Taylor Kwon is great as his sidekick in Bullet to the Head. Sung Kang is an excellent actor who has been featured in the Fast & Furious movies. He also was in Ninja Assassin (2009) and Live Free or Die Hard (2007). Some of the acting in Bullet to the Head is bad at times, such as Christian Slater's small part in the film.

You can tell Christian Slater wasn't enthusiastic about his throw away character, Marcus Baptiste. His performance as a scummy and corrupt lawyer, who gets a shotgun blast to his head by Stallone was uninspired and forgettable. Sylvester Stallone likes to help out actors that are down on their luck, but I would have preferred if he picked someone like Eric Roberts for the Marcus Baptiste character. I have kind of mixed feelings about Jason Momoa in this film. At times he seemed stiff and other times he was perfect as a muscle-bound douchebag meat head enforcer. He does put on a good athletic display in fighting and when he kills several of Robert Morel's thugs.

He actually reminds me somewhat of Dolph Lundgren's various roles in films and his acting style. I am not familiar with Jason Momoa as an actor, since I have not seen any of the films he has done such as the remake of Conan the Barbarian (2011). Jason Momoa could be a big star with a better agent and some lessons to improve his acting. The females will most definitely love him. The Arab and Spanish mixed, Sarah Shahi is very beautiful as the daughter of Stallone's character in Bullet to the Head. She isn't in much of the film, but leaves you with the impression that she is talented.

Sarah Shahi when I first saw her in the movie, kind of reminds me of Kat Von Dee with all her tattoos. Bullet to the Head has a lot of scenes shot at night. It also involves Sylvester Stallone and Sung Kang driving around in a fancy car, which is reminiscent of the Fast and the Furious films. The intense action scenes featuring brutal fist fights, people getting stabbed with knives, shot all over their body, explosions, usage of fire axes, and lots of blood are all well done.

The bath house fight and the final fight featuring axes between Stallone and Momoa were good and brutal, but could have been better. The well choreographed fight between them at the end was too short.

The action scenes are done with excellent camera work at different angles. Some brief nudity is featured in Bullet to the Head, just some breast shots.

As for the music in the movie, if you are a fan of Jazz and blues you will like the soundtrack. It fits the New Orleans setting that Bullet to the Head is in.

The Director of Bullet to the Head is Walter Hill, who also directed the films The Warrior (1979), 48 Hours (1982), Another 48 Hours (1990), and Last Man Standing (1996). Much like those films, Bullet to the Head features the gritty realistic violence and intense profanity laden dialogue.

Bullet to the Head is an average throwback b-movie action film. The movie isn't perfect since none of what is shown in the film is original and nothing really stands out. Bullet to the Head doesn't leave you with anything memorable that will want to make you watch it repeatedly. Despite these flaws, it still is an enjoyable film. Bullet to the Head is best to watch when you have nothing else to do.

The Biggest Blockbusters of June 2013

June is usually a calm month when it comes to films. Hollywood production houses release the biggest films in May when kids first get out of school and at the beginning of July to take advantage of the holiday weekend. June of 2013 was different thanks to two big films: "Man of Steel" and "Monsters University."

"Man of Steel," which offers a new look at the Superman story, set box-office records from the moment it hit theaters. The last film centering on the character, "Superman Returns," opened in 2006 and grossed more than $200 million, but "Man of Steel" beat that box-office tally in just a few weeks. The film made more than $246 million by the end of June, and experts predict that it will gross close to $400 million by the time it leaves theaters.

Disney and Pixar had another hit on their hands with the prequel "Monsters University." In less than two weeks, the film grossed more than $100 million in the United States alone, and it earned more than $80 million in its opening weekend. The only Disney/Pixar film that has opened with higher numbers was "Toy Story 3." Though some think the upcoming "Despicable Me 2" will beat the film at the box office, "Monsters University" was still one of the top-grossing films for June.

Based on a novel of the same name, "World War Z" stars Brad Pitt. The zombie flick opened to negative reviews and fans complaining that it didn't follow the story of the novel. Even the author of the book was outspoken about how much the film deviated from his story. Those complaints didn't hurt the film at the box office though. It earned more than $60 million in its opening weekend, making it one of the biggest hits of Pitt's career. By the time June ended, it hit more than $120 million, and the producers are already in talks for a sequel.

The first film in the "Fast and Furious" franchise opened in 2001, but the newest sequel showed that fans aren't done with the series. The film topped box-office sales in its first few weeks, and fans loved the deviation from street racing to a crime thriller. "Fast and Furious 6" grossed more than $86 million in June, bringing its total box-office results to more than $230 million in the US. It's clear that fans of the series will see other outings in the future.

Hollywood tends to release horror movies in the fall to capitalize on viewers getting ready for Halloween, but two horror films landed in theaters in June. "Evil Dead," a remake of the original 1980s horror film, opened to good reviews but didn't do well at the box office. "The Purge," a horror thriller starring Ethan Hawke, fared much better. Set in a future where everyone gets the chance to do anything they want for one night, the film opened to relatively positive reviews and grossed more than $60 million.

The surprise hit of the summer is the action caper "Now You See Me." Featuring a talented cast, including Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson and Morgan Freeman, the film quietly opened at the end of May. Figures for June indicate that the film hit $100 million, and some believe it might make it to the $200 mark by the end of July.

Comedy lovers came out in droves for the films "This is the End" and "The Heat." "The Heat" stars Melissa McCarthy as a rough-and-tumble cop and Sandra Bullock as a straight-laced FBI agent. Bullock took a break from acting in recent years, and this marks one of her biggest roles since "The Blind Side." She hadn't previously done comedy since "The Proposal," which starred Betty White and Ryan Reynolds. No one should be surprised that the film made nearly $40 in its opening weekend, because McCarthy has recently had a string of hit films, including "Identity Thief" and "The Hangover 3."

"This is the End," the stone comedy headlined by James Franco, ended the month by making more than $70 million at the box office. Many call it the sleeper hit of the year, because the film, which focuses on the last night a group of comedians spend in Franco's house during the end of the world, had little marketing. The success of the film generated talks of a sequel to "Pineapple Express," which starred several of the same actors.

While June is often a slow month for films, June of 2013 changed things. Films such as "Fast and Furious 6" and "Man of Steel" sent viewers running to theaters, and it's clear that some of those films will dominate the July box office too.

Special effects have changed dramatically since a stop-action technique was used to turn a pumpkin into a stagecoach in the 1899 version of "Cinderella." Advances in technology have enabled breathtaking special effects, which in turn have given rise to a bumper crop of action films.

Action-film star Sylvester Stallone both wrote and starred in the 2010 hit "The Expendables." The story follows a group of bikers and mercenaries from New Orleans who are dispatched to save a group of people held hostage by Somali pirates. The original movie was followed up in 2012 by "The Expendables 2," with the group this time being sent to rescue a hostage in Nepal. "The Expendables 3" is set to premiere in 2014, this time with Jackie Chan joining the cast.

"The Expendables" wound up grossing more than $103 million domestically and $171 million in international markets for a total of just under $275 million. "The Expendables 2" didn't fare as well at the box office in the United States, grossing just $85 million, but it did exceptionally well internationally, ultimately grossing more than $312 million worldwide.

The 2009 film "Star Trek" was the eleventh installment in the popular "Star Trek" movie franchise, and it was quickly followed up by the 2013 debut of "Star Trek Into Darkness." Since the tenth movie in the franchise, "Star Trek: Nemesis," was considered a failure at the box office, the makers of "Star Trek" chose to completely revamp the series to give it a better chance of success.

The studio brought on "Lost" creator J.J. Abrams to direct the film. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were brought on to rewrite the script, new actors were hired to portray younger versions of the characters from the original series, and the ship's interior and crew uniforms were redesigned. The changes were a success, and the film wound up grossing just under $80 million in the United States and a total of more than $385 million worldwide. The success carried through with "Star Trek Into Darkness," which was ultimately the highest-grossing film in the franchise with total worldwide box-office receipts of $443 million.

The 2008 hit "The Dark Knight" was followed up with the 2012 sequel "The Dark Knight Rises." Christian Bale reprises the role of Batman in this series, which debuted with the 2005 film "Batman Begins." The star-studded cast included Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The movie was well received by critics and audiences. The movie won a total of 20 awards and garnered an additional 60 nominations. The money says it all; "The Dark Knight Rises" raked in a worldwide total of more than $1 billion, making it the eighth-highest-grossing film of all time in terms of worldwide receipts.

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" debuted in 2011, and it followed in the footsteps of its prequels, the 2007 hit "Transformers" and the 2009 sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." What makes "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" notable was the absence of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the writers responsible for the first two movies. The writing duo had previously been brought on to revamp the "Star Trek" franchise, so they were well aware that it is very easy for sequels to get stale. In that vein, they turned over the writing reins to Ehren Kruger.

The movie was a phenomenal success. It ultimately brought in more than $350 million in domestic box-office receipts and a total of more than $1.1 billion worldwide. It was the highest-grossing film in Paramount/DreamWorks' history and the highest-grossing third film in any franchise to date.

Marvel Comics hero Iron Man came crashing onto the silver screen in the 2008 hit "Iron Man," which was followed by "Iron Man 2" in 2010 and "Iron Man 3" in 2013. In addition to stunning special effects and an all-star cast, what made the "Iron Man" franchise so successful was the star, Robert Downey, Jr. He managed to keep Iron Man down to earth, injecting humor and a laissez faire attitude that would be almost believable if it weren't for him flying around in an iron suit.

The franchise has been so successful that BusinessWeek ranked Iron Man as one of the ten most intelligent American comic characters, and Forbes actually ranked Iron Man as the wealthiest fictional character. "Iron Man" wound up grossing more than $585 million worldwide; "Iron Man 2" grossed close to $624 million worldwide; and "Iron Man 3" became the sixth Disney film and the sixteenth film overall to actually bring in more than $1 billion at the box office.

Iron Man 3 is a superhero film of Hollywood. The movie is about Tony Stark whose world is torn apart by a terrible terrorist called the Mandarin. He starts a journey of transformation and retribution.

Tony Stark recalls a New Year's Eve party in 1999 with researcher Maya Hansen, creator of Extremis-an investigational regenerative treatment intended to allow recovery from crippling wounds. Disabled researcher Aldrich Killian offers them a place in his enterprise, Advanced Idea Mechanics, but Stark rejects the offer, embarrassing Killian.

Years later, Stark's experiences during the alien attack of New York are providing him panic attacks. Restless, he has constructed several dozen Iron Man suits. A string of bombings by terrorist the Mandarin has left intelligence agencies confused by a lack of forensic evidence. When Stark Manufacturing security topmost Happy Hogan is seriously injured in one such violence, Stark overcomes his stupor and issues a television threat to the Mandarin, who replies by destroying Stark's home with helicopter gunships.

Stark escapes in an Iron Man outfit, which his artificial intelligence JARVIS guides to rural Tennessee. Stark's experimental armor lacks enough power to return to California, and the world believes him departed.

Teaming with Harley, an intelligent 10-year-old boy, Stark scrutinizes the remains of a local blast bearing the marks of a Mandarin attack. He determines the "bombings" were activated by soldiers subjected to Extremis. The violent part of Extremis is that if the body stops receiving the drug it explodes itself. To hide this damaging effect of the drugs, terrorist attacks are used as a cover.

With Harley's assistance, Stark traces the Mandarin to Miami and penetrates his headquarters using improvised weapons. Inside he learns the Mandarin is a British actor named Trevor Slattery, who claims he is unaware to the actions carried out in his name. The Mandarin is a formation of Killian, who adopted Hansen's Extremis investigation as a cure for his own incapacity and extended the program to include injured war veterans.

Killian captures Stark and murders Hansen when she has a change of heart about the plan.

Stark escapes and reunifies with Rhodes (the former War Machine, now re-branded as the Iron Patriot), learning that Killian expects to attack President Ellis aboard Air Force One. Stark protects some remaining passengers and crew but cannot stop Killian from kidnapping Ellis and abolishing Air Force One.

They trace Killian to a stored damaged oil tanker where Killian means to kill Ellis on live television. The vice president will become a dummy leader.

Rhodes saves the president. Stark discovers Potts has continued the Extremis process. However, before he can protect her, a rig collapses nearby them, and she falls to her death. Stark challenges Killian and tricks him in an Iron-Man suit that self-destructs, but fails to murder him. Killian then discloses he is the real Mandarin. Potts, whose Extremis powers permitted her to survive her fall, interferes and kills Killian.

After the fight, Stark orders JARVIS to abolish each Iron-Man suit as a sign of his dedication to Potts. With Stark's help, Potts' Extremis effects are alleviated, and Stark undergoes surgery to eliminate the shrapnel embedded near his heart. He pitches his outdated chest arc reactor into the sea, thinking that he will always be Iron Man.

In a current day post-credits scene, Stark wakes up Dr. Bruce Banner, who fell sleeping listening at the beginning of Stark's story.

The Highlights of Adam Sandler's Career

Adam Sandler, known as Sandman to his friends, didn't always dream of working as an actor or a comedian. His father Stanley worked as an electrical engineer, and his mother Judy taught nursery school. Born on Sept. 9, 1966, in a Brooklyn hospital, the future actor only spent a few years in Brooklyn before his family decided to move. Manchester, NH, was a far cry from his former home, and the actor admits that he had trouble fitting in with his classmates.

While attending Manchester Central High School, he became the class clown. Sandler discovered that it was more fun making his classmates laugh with him instead of at him. After graduating high school, he attended New York University and started perfecting his craft at clubs around the city. In 1988, he finished classes at the Tisch School of the Arts and launched his career.

Unlike many other actors, who struggle in their early days, it didn't take long for Sandler to find success. While still in college, he landed a major role on "The Cosby Show," playing the best friend of one of the characters. After graduating college, he landed a role on "Remote Control." The show, which aired on MTV, gave him the chance to perfect some of his humorous characters. Despite landing several roles, his big break came a few years later. Dennis Miller saw Sandler perform and recommended that Lorne Michaels watch his act.

Michaels was so impressed by his talent that he gave him a job writing for "Saturday Night Live." Writers on the show have the chance to write themselves into sketches as well as write sketches for other actors. Sandler slowly began pitching a few ideas that made it onto the show, and he eventually started writing sketches that showcased his own talents. He wrote several memorable characters and created songs that charted in the United States, including "The Chanukah Song."

While still on the show, he starred in a handful of films, including "Airheads" and "Mixed Nuts," but it was "Billy Madison" that launched his film career. Starring as a man sent back to elementary school, he won over a legion of fans with his patented brand of raunchy humor. The same year that "Billy Madison" landed in theaters, Michaels fired Sandler and several other actors from "Saturday Night Live."

Sandler didn't let that slow him down. "Billy Madison" became a cult classic and more than earned back its budget at the box office, and studios took notice of the actor. He starred in seven more films leading up to 2000, and many of those films were box-office hits, including "The Wedding Singer" and "Happy Gilmore." Sandler signed on for the dark comedy "Very Bad Things," starring Christian Slater, but he later dropped out to work on "The Waterboy." His next big film was "Big Daddy," which featured Sandler playing a man forced to grow up. While working on the film, he met a young actress named Jackie Titone. The actress appeared in several of his films, and the two are now married with two children.

Despite a string of hit comedic films, Sandler wanted to venture into darker territory. His first chance came with the 2002 film "Punch-Drunk Love." He received a Golden Globe nomination for his role, and many critics wondered if he would focus more on dramas. He auditioned for roles in "Collateral" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," but he lost those roles to Jamie Foxx and Johnny Depp. Though he appeared in "Reign Over Me" and a few other dramas, he decided to go back to his roots.

Sandler is close friends with actor Kevin James ("Grown Ups"), and the two worked together in 2007 on "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry." The film starred the two men as firefighters who agree to marry for the benefits they get from their insurance company. The two also appeared together in "Grown Ups" and its sequel "Grown Ups 2," and Sandler also appeared on James' television show "The King of Queens."

Sandler returned to comedy for "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" before starring in the dramedy "Funny People." The actor played an older comedian who begins working with a younger comic, played by Seth Rogen ("Knocked Up"), after learning he's dying. The role led to an invitation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

While still starring in hit films, Sandler decided to try working behind the camera. He launched Happy Madison Productions, which produced the films "The House Bunny" and "Here Comes the Boom," among others. He also started the Scary Madison label to produce horror films such as "The Shortcut." Sandler is starring in films that are in production for release in 2013 and 2014, showing that he loves working in front of the camera as much as he enjoys producing films and that fans can look forward to seeing more from him.

Family Programming at the Florida Film Festival 2013

The Florida Film Festival, produced by Enzian Theater and held throughout Central Florida each April, offers a record-breaking 170 films this year from more than 1,500 entries from 23 countries. Films include 22 world premieres, four North American premieres, and four United States premieres.

Programming includes competing and non-competing independent films, special screenings, midnight movies, and sidebars. Although most of the films are created for adult audiences and run into the late hours, each year Florida Film Festival also includes matinees with family programming to expose young audiences to the voices of independent filmmakers.

Once in a Lullaby

It all started when a public school music teacher posted online videos of his amazing students. This documentary explores how YouTube sensation PS22 Chorus, a group of fifth graders from Staten Island, came to perform at the Academy Awards. Through their individual stories we learn about their miraculous journey from the classroom to the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Jonathan Kalafer directed this 85-minute documentary in its Southeast Premiere.

The Painting

Why did the painter leave a chateau, gardens, and forest unfinished in his work of art? That's the question the characters within the painting want answered. Three kinds of characters in various stages of completion inhabit the world inside this painting. The entirely painted Toupins, nearly finished Pafinis, and roughly sketched Reufs live within a caste system established after the abandonment by the painter. Only his return can restore harmony to their world. Starring the voices of Jean Barney, Chloe Berthier, Julien Bouanich, Serge Faliu, Thierry Jahn, and Jean-Francois Laguionie, The Painting was directed by Jean-Francois Laguionie. The animated film, a French Oscar nominee for Best Animated Feature, runs 78 minutes in its Southeast Premiere.

Fame High

High school students at the Los Angeles County High School for the Performing Arts (also known as Fame High) struggle to find their voices and survive against the competition in this musical documentary. Individual stories include an actor, a singer, a ballet dancer, and a pianist as they live through the heartbreaks and triumphs of attending one of the most prestigious public arts high schools in the country. Directed by Scott Hamilton Kennedy, this documentary runs 97 minutes in its Southeast Premiere, and includes English and Korean, with English subtitles.

Special Screening: Brunch with Cary Elwes, Featuring The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride

Told as a story within a story, this charming fantasy romance follows the adventures of Buttercup, a beautiful young woman engaged to a repulsive prince. Westley, who previously worked as Buttercup's poor farm boy, returns to her as a dashing pirate and finds his true love (who thought he was dead) has accepted a marriage proposal from someone else. Thus begins a series of painful tests that Westley must endure to reunite with Buttercup. Actor Cary Elwes will be in attendance at this screening. Starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Chris Sarandon, Mandy Patinkin, Fred Savage, Peter Falk, Wallace Shawn, Andre the Giant, The Princess Bride was directed by Rob Reiner. This romantic comedy from 1987 runs 98 minutes and is rated PG.

The Way, Way Back - Movie Review

Bullies come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. For 14-year-old Duncan (Liam James), his nemesis appears in the guise of Trent (Steve Carell), the controlling jerk dating Duncan's divorced mother, Pam (Toni Collette). Trent takes them (along with his snobbish daughter [Zoe Levin]) to a beach house for a summer vacation. Once they're away from the routine of daily life, hidden qualities emerge that make for high drama and lots of laughs.

Uncomfortable Family Dynamics

Trent makes it clear during the car ride to the beach house that he considers Duncan a "three out of ten," with the potential to raise his score if he works hard. Meanwhile his mother sleeps peacefully in the front seat as Trent continues to undermine Duncan's emerging self-image. This initial glimpse of Pam carries throughout the film as she either sleeps, ignores, or gets high to escape the realities of her life.

Much of the drama comes from the uncomfortable dynamics between these four characters sharing a summer home. The lack of respect, poor communication, and dysfunctional behavior make an unpleasant environment for all of them. Larger-than-life next-door neighbors give the audience (and Duncan) something lighter to focus on besides the unhappy foursome.

Surrounded by Quirky Misfits

Luckily these strange neighbors add a pleasant diversion. Allison Janney portrays a gossipy mother with a big mouth, but a good heart. Her nerdy son (River Alexander) and beautiful daughter (AnnaSophia Robb) also fit into Duncan's life in strange and unexpected ways.

Even more importantly, however, Duncan breaks free of his unhappy summer home by bicycling each day to Water Wizz, a nearby water park where the smooth-talking manager, Owen (Sam Rockwell), offers the boy a job and a place to fit in. Surrounded by quirky misfits at the park, Duncan discovers his unique strengths through the responsibilities assigned to him.

Excellent acting, an interesting setting, and a likeable story with which most of us can relate, combine to make The Way, Way Back a small - though delightful - splash in the pool of summer movies.

Top 20 Rolling Stones Hits

In April 1962, The Rolling Stones was formed with members Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts. This British R&B influenced rock group got their name from a Muddy Waters song.

Former Beatles publicist, Andrew Loog Oldham, signed "The Stones" to a management deal in 1963 and began promoting them as "the bad boys of rock and roll", compared to the Beatles' squeaky clean image. Oldham also produced their first albums between 1964 and 1967.

The Rolling Stones' first UK tour took place in 1964, along with the Ronettes.

Their first American Top 40 hit came in 1964 with "Tell Me (You're Coming Back)" followed by "It's All Over Now." They finally reached the Top Ten with "Time Is On My Side."

Shortly after leaving the group in 1969, guitarist Brian Jones drowned in his swimming pool in Sussex, England. Mick Taylor replaced Jones as guitarist and Ron Wood replaced Taylor in 1975. Wood had previously played in the bands, The Jeff Beck Group and Faces with Rod Stewart.

The Rolling Stones were never without controversy. That includes the film, "Gimme Shelter," a documentary of their controversial Altamont concert in 1969, where someone in the audience was murdered by a member of the Hell's Angels.

Chart wise, The Rolling Stones had forty-one Top 40 hits between 1964 and 1989 and, according to the Billboard's weekly charts, they went to #1 eight times. Their last Top 40 hit was "Rock And A Hard Place" in 1989.

Lead vocalist, Mick Jagger, tried recording solo and managed to crack the Top 40 four times, with his biggest hit being a cover version of the Martha and the Vandellas "Dancing In The Street." He teamed up with David Bowie on this tune, which was recorded at the Live-Aid benefit concert in 1985 and it went Top 10. Jagger even made it to #3 in 1984 as a guest vocalist on The Jacksons' hit "State Of Shock."

Five Movies That Shocked, Excited, and Horrified Tribeca Film Festival Audiences

The Tribeca Film Festival is one of the youngest, high-profile international events of its kind. The festival was launched in New York City in 2002, bringing social spirit and economic vitality back to lower Manhattan months after the World Trade Center attacks. Film giant Robert De Niro worked with Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff to jointly found the event, which hosts thousands of innovative films from around the world.

Competition isn't forgotten at the festival. Breakthrough films are celebrated in categories like Best Documentary Feature and Student Visionary. In 2012, the Canadian drama "War Witch" made a big splash with its grueling story of an African child soldier. Viewers were entranced from the first scenes when twelve-year-old Komona is given the choice to kill her parents or witness their brutal murder by machete. Komona chooses to perform the deed herself, which is when her life as a violent rebel begins. Through her bond with a young albino boy, Komona learns of trippy tree sap, known as magic milk, which brings visions of the dead and allows her to spot and evade government soldiers. This uncanny ability elevates Komona to the role of war witch at the side of the rebel leader.

Written and directed by Kim Nguyen, this poignant film snagged the coveted Best Narrative Feature award and Best Actress for the star, Rachel Mwanza. Audiences praised the movie's stirring look at savagery and despair through youthful eyes. Yet, Mwanza and her costar, Serge Kanyinda, evoke moments of love and lightness with their taboo romance. A stunningly eerie soundtrack blends African music with startling sounds like creaking and rattling. No scenes are wasted, and Komona endures one horror after the next in a way that feels raw and unedited, but never preachy.

"Una Noche," a movie by American filmmaker Lucy Mulloy, also reigned at the 2012 festival. The film is set in Havana, Cuba, and details three teens' plans to flee the country on a raft. Mulloy deliberately searched for fresh faces to cast, and she sought to capture both the beauty and harshness of the local culture. Raul is a wild and overtly sexual young man pursued on assault charges after a confrontation with a tourist. Elio and Lila are fraternal twins coping with sexual confusion and family loyalty in the midst of a broken home. The movie earned the Best New Narrative Filmmaker award and dual Best Actor wins for costars Javier Nu�ez Florian (Elio) and Dariel Arrechada (Raul).

The first half of "Una Noche" develops the conflicting main characters and follows the two male stars as they secretly plot and steal supplies. But, it's the shocking finish that gripped audiences as their youthful flight ends in a futile return to the starting point. Despite the movie's unquestionable merits, a behind-the-scenes drama drew even more media attention. Two of the stars went missing while traveling to the Tribeca Film Festival. They later resurfaced with the intention of applying for asylum to avoid going back to Cuba.

A more heartwarming story is to be found in the 2010 film, "Monica and David." This documentary spotlights a couple with Down syndrome as they seek independence from protective parents. In a society that's often uncomfortable with mental dysfunction, "Monica and David" cleverly shows that dreams of finding love, starting a family, and enjoying the unexpected are universal. As adults trapped in the roles of children, Monica and David try to find the perfect balance of self-reliance and parental interference. After winning Best Documentary Feature at the festival, the movie was acquired and aired by HBO.

The 2010 film "Dog Pound" produced mixed responses, but one thing was clear: viewers were visually jolted by what they saw. Filmmaker Kim Chapiron was honored as the 2010 Best New Narrative Filmmaker for a ballsy depiction of a vicious juvenile detention facility. New detainee Butch, played by Adam Butcher, soon realizes reform is a fantasy concept in the prison-like hierarchy where the resident bullies and rapists freely unleash terror on other inmates. Opponents of the film often consider it a scene-for-scene remake of the 1979 film "Scum," but Chapiron brings fresh intensity with a dark and crude look at man's animalistic roots. Stock plot points of the prison genre do crop up, but the film does a refreshing job of exploring human nature, survival tactics, and even protective instincts.

The Best Narrative Feature of 2009 was "About Elly," an Iranian drama with a riveting ensemble cast. A deceptively placid seaside setting sets the tone for a tragic getaway, where single teacher Elly is teased and taunted by fellow travelers who want to set her up with a divorced friend. The movie's slow start is artfully misleading as the film shifts from everyday socializing between middle-class characters to a study of dishonesty and self-preservation. When Elly suddenly goes missing, the other travelers realize how little they know about her and desperately try to cover up emerging details to save themselves from scrutiny. The problem of navigating social politics drives the film, as well as the cancerous nature of seemingly harmless lies.

"About Elly," directed by Asghar Farhadi, was hailed almost unanimously by Iranian and international audiences. What Farhadi, Nguyen, and their fellow festival winners continually prove is that random plot twists, in-your-face graphics, and nonstop one-liners aren't the key to making waves in the film industry. Stories about real people with real struggles attract even the most jaded audiences, hopefully creating the next generation of international film buffs.

The majority of your day is probably spent listening and communicating with others.

Whether it's your children, partner, co-workers, friends, etc., you have an ear open to what is being said.

The question is, "Are you really hearing them?"

I'm not talking about conversations pertaining to the weather or general chatting, I'm referring to the heart to heart discussions or matters of importance.

Most of us haven't learned effective ways of listening and connecting with someone.

Since much of your day is probably spent on autopilot, you may be listening but generally, only partially. More times than not, you may not even be aware this is what you are doing.

You may be thinking about what you have to do next, or you are pre-occupied with what you are doing in that moment and you haven't truly heard the person, even though you think you have.

Are you tuned into what another person is saying, or tuned out? Check it out next time you "think" you are listening. Are you?

Since most days are busy, you have to become a great multi-tasker. In fact, you probably can juggle your day almost as well as a professional juggler can.

What you might not realize is that you may not be listening and communicating as well as you think you are.

The best way to know if you are really listening to what a person has to say is by stopping what you are doing for a minute and really focusing on what he/she is talking about.

You probably have a great story and/or advice for the person; the problem is you may be offering it too soon. When you do this, you may miss how the person is feeling or the opportunity for him/her to find a solution or a lesson to learn about what is transpiring. In a way, you may be stunting his/her growth.

You mean well, and your heart and intentions are probably in the right place, just not necessarily at the right time.

When someone is talking, it's important you don't add your two cents, so to speak, too soon, even if your two cents is very valuable.

What you have to say may be very important and very helpful to the person, but you have to know when the time is right to say what you have to say, or when to share an experience you've had that you have learned from.

So how do you know how and when to listen, or when to offer your story or advice?

The question to ask yourself after conversations is, "Did I listen and communicate effectively with this person?"

Asking yourself this question allows you to be aware of whether you were really listening.

Stop. The best way to really hear what someone is saying is to stop what you are doing.

Look. It's easier to focus on what someone is saying if you are looking at him/her as opposed to looking at what you are doing, unless you cooking or driving, of course. Then you might want to chat with them later so you can pay attention to what you are doing.

Listen. You think listening would be easy to do because you do it all the time. When someone is talking, you need to check in with yourself about whether you are hearing him/her, or you are paying more attention to your thoughts or jumping in with what you feel he/she "should" do or, with your own story.

Repeat. One of the best ways to know if you are focused on what a person is talking about is by repeating back to him/her what has been said. No, not word for word, but paraphrasing what has been said. If you didn't hear correctly he/she will probably let you know by reinterating what was said.

Validate. When you acknowledge how a person feels you are saying, "I hear you".

Support. Ask if there is anything you can do to assist. Remember, not everyone is good at knowing what is needed or for asking for help. Think of what you could do that might help. A cup of tea, an ear to listen, a gift certificate, flowers, a card, checking in, etc.

Allow. Let the person who is talking have a chance to come up with some of his/her own possibilities or a chance to just be with how he/she is feeling. You can ask if he/she has thought about the next step, or plans.

Two Cents. Your insights are brilliant and it's wonderful to share them, but wait before you jump in. People are more receptive to what you have to say once they have felt their feeling and are being heard first. If you aren't sure you can always ask if the person would like some input.

Remember, you too may have something to learn by what another person is saying, but you have to stop long enough to hear it.

2. The look

3. The conversation

When a guy is across the room, he cannot tell which finger it is on and he may assume incorrectly that you are taken. If he doesn't ask you the question of whether or not you are attached, he may ask someone whom you both know.

4. He appears unexpectedly

He likes you a lot if he shows up out of nowhere. He can only do that if he has been asking people about your schedule, or he has been paying attention to where you are going and at what time. His face may turn red when he sees you. A sudden, "Oh, hi," is his way of saying, "I don't want to seem obvious, but I am interested in you." If you feel the same way, do not act shy. Stop and talk to him.

5. EVERYONE likes you

Is he interested? When you are well liked and a happy person, why wouldn't he like you? Of course he does. If you don't have a great life, however, now is your time to start working on one. Take a look at your career possibilities, body image, future, plans, and resources. You may be naturally talented at something, but it won't matter unless you work on your strengths. Misused or unused talents fade away. School and training do not.

These are the five signs that he is interested and he is on the verge of asking you out. Make it easy for him and be friendly. This is where relationships begin.
