Alternatives to the World's Most Popular Web Services

Alternatives to the World's Most Popular Web Services

By Sagar Rox

The better alternative to Facebook (world's most popular social networking website) is Google Plus. Let us see why.

What makes Google+ a better alternative for Facebook?

Hangouts: The killer feature of Google Plus is Hangouts wherein one can video chat in groups in real-time. One can quickly setup and hangout with up to 10 friends instantly, irrespective whether you logged in from your phone or your computer. Another awesome feature is the "Live Hangout Stream" which lets you broadcast a live event to the whole world. Very useful for product promotions, celebrity talks, sport events etc.

Events & Photos: Hosting a party or function? You can now make an event page for it on Google Plus. The awesome thing about it is that anyone attending your event can upload photos to the event page in real-time or at a later point of time! That is one cool feature now. End result, you will get one page where all uploaded images can be seen together, Google+ can also create a cool little slideshow video out of the images which are uploaded to your event page. You can even upload high-resolution pictures if you are using Picasa, the regular resolution limit is 20482048 px.

Explore: It is very difficult to discover people outside of our friend circles in Facebook. Google+ has an section called Explore which displays top posts which you may be interested in, collated based on the analysis of your profile. This feature helps you find new people as well as latest happenings around the world through the trending topics.

Gmail Alternative

Gmail from Google, world's most popular free email service has some shortcomings as well. Outlook.com from Microsoft is very promising and has some very cool features to offer. Let us see them below.

What makes Outlook a better alternative for Gmail?

Unlimited Storage and Undelete: A lot of people these days are having issues with Gmail's GB's of storage, it is insufficient to many, including me. Outlook has promised that your inbox capacity will auto-increase as and when you need more space, now that is cool! This matters a lot for people who need to transfer a lot of files through emails. The Undelete feature lets you ask Outlook to recover deleted messages.

Email Aliases: Outlook lets you create email 'aliases' such as forums@outlook.com, which can be real useful when you need to sign up on new websites. All aliases can be auto-sorted into their respective folders, leaving you with a very clean inbox. You can of course delete these aliases at any point of time.

Social Networking: Integration with other web services is a key feature these days! Outlook has integration with LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. Whenever you open an email, the sender's LinkedIn information, Tweets and Facebok posts show up in a pane on the right side. You also have option to Like/Re-tweet them. You can also chat with your Facebook friends using the built in messenger app.

Flickr Alternative

A better alternative to Flickr (photo sharing website) is 500px.com. Let us see why.

What makes 500px a better alternative for Flickr?

Design and Discoverability: Photography is a visual art and it must be displayed in a pleasing manner. Flickr has fallen short of it, 500px however has a very gorgeous design. The site lets you discover new photos through daily selections. There is "Flow" section of the portfolio, which auto arranges a user's images by its aesthetic value rather than its upload date. Pretty arty, must say!

Sell Your Work: Just like a painter sells his paintings, a photographer must be able to sell his photographs as well. 500px lets you do this very easily. Anybody can buy your image on the site and you get paid for it. You can earn $40 for every canvas print bought and $2 for every direct download of an HD image.

Strong Community: Flickr was the place where photo enthusiasts and professionals used to hangout in the early days, that is not the case anymore. 500px however, has managed to attract a lot of professionals who quit Flickr and hence the community on 500px is very robust. Each image has its own discussion section. It is a very good place to learn a lot about the art.

YouTube Alternative

A better alternative to world's most popular video sharing site YouTube seems to be Vimeo. Let us see why.

What makes Vimeo a better alternative for YouTube?

Quality Videos: Finding an interesting video on YouTube is like finding a needle from a haystack! Vimeo makes this very easy with several 'channels' it has - started by users themselves - which curate cool videos from other users. Vimeo does not allow commercial videos, gaming videos, pornography or non-user-generated content. This ensures that the video clips are safe for all ages.

Unlimited Runtime: YouTube only allows a maximum of 15 minutes of runtime for a video for those who have a free account. If you need to upload bigger videos, you need to split them up! Vimeo has no such restrictions.

Download: Like it? Just Download it. Vimeo allows you to download any video so that you can view it at a later point of time again. No need to use some illegal third party application like most of the people use to download videos from YouTube.

Google Alternative

Google.com, world's most popular search engine has some shortcomings over its competitor DuckDuckGo.com. Let us see what are they.

What makes DuckDuckGo a better alternative for Google?

Zero-Click Information: Search for any item and DuckDuckGo will give you a quick summary by collating information from different sources. If you are searching for a movie, it will grab information from IMDb, Wikipedia and maybe even from the movie's official website to give you relevant results. You can directly ask questions to the search engine, say for example "Who won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2010″ to get an instant answer.

Better Privacy: Google is often viewed as a big bad villain when it comes to finding or storing your personal information on the internet. DuckDuckGo does the opposite by not collecting any data of yours nor sending your private information to the sites you click on.

!bang: This is a feature that regular DuckDuckGo users swear by.!bang is a shortcut to let you search within your intended site. For example, if you want to search for 'human stomach' on Wikipedia, just type!w (shortcut for wikipedia) or!wikipedia human stomach and hit enter, you will directly be taken to Wikipedia's search results for the term you've entered.

What is your opinion and what are your favourite alternatives?

Recruitment Websites Can Help Boost Employment

Recruitment Websites Can Help Boost Employment

By Ador Talukdar

As almost all job-seekers can readily realize, it is not always easy to find a new job, and it becomes even more difficult when the economy slows instead of increasing. Recruitment websites can help employees to smoothen the transition to new jobs, while they can also help the employer to lighten some of the burdens that are associated with finding new employees.

Recruitment websites will normally be at the lead in indicating where employment is expected to be headed, or the direction that the economy is to take, as employers make use of the facilities and services offered to hire new employers. The website can be specific to certain industries, or they can be dedicated to particular regions. They can also be dedicated to specific employment levels. There are recruitment websites that offer their services that are dedicated solely for executive level employees, while other firms may offer resources that any job seeker can use.

A closer examination of the number and types of vacancies at some of the better websites, can easily indicate, which sectors of the economy are growing or those that are retreating. This information can be vital for those changing jobs or career, or even more important for those provide career counselling. It may not be a very prudent decision to plan for a career in an industry with very little prospects for growth, and it may be easier to get an indication of the prospects by observing the trends that can be identified by the number of vacant job positions.

Navigating the job market, can be confusing, because much of the published reports may indicate that the number of available jobs may be in decline, while employers express frustration at not being able to find the right employees. The truth is that much of the job market remains hidden, but the proper use of recruitment websites may actually help the discovery process.

Individual organizations across almost every area of the supply chain may establish a site specifically for recruiting new employees. The facility will allow job seekers to apply directly at the company, where applications will normally be processed by the Human Resources department of the firm. Smaller organizations that do not have a Human Resources department may use the services offered at the bigger, and well-recognized sites. The vacancies that are listed will be very likely from employers who need to hire workers.

The sites offer tremendous benefits to both job seeker and employers, and make it much easier to contact employers. For employers, it is a cost-effective any very efficient method of finding new employees, while job seeker can find the job the very closely matches their requirements. When the process is working as expected, it can bring the worker, and employer together in a much shorter time, and it can be done with minimal human input.

There may be some cost associated with the operation of recruitment sites, but the costs may depend primarily on the types and options of services that are offered. The more advanced sites will usually make easier to job seekers to find jobs by offering advanced search features.

Recruitment websites serve a number of different purposes, they can not only help job-seekers to find jobs quickly, but employers can use recruitment websites to find employees at lower costs. For more information you can visit the website here.

Just follow these simple steps to make your own websites for free.
Step 1) Get a cheap hosting plan that allows you to install WordPress onto your domains. This is a minimal cost, one of the two costs that are unavoidable- Hosting, and the cost of domain names.
Costs: A good hosting company should cost you no more than $10 per month. Check out Just Host, Host Monster, or Host Gator for starters. These companies all have step-by-step videos to get you started.
Step 2) Buy the domain name and point the "Name Servers" to your hosting account. Get a cheap domain from somewhere like GoDaddy, or NameCheap and just follow the directions to "direct the name servers" to your account.
Step 3) Install WordPress onto the domain. You will use Simple Scripts, or Fantastico Deluxe depending on your hosting account. Again, there are step-by-step videos for this process. It only takes a minute or so.
Step 4) Customize your WordPress Blog site. You can make your site look and act like a blog with posts, or a website with pages. Add a "Theme" from your admin control panel in the WordPress site to change the look and functionality of the site.
Step 5) Add content and publish the site. Simply add your content to the pages and click "Publish". You now have your site up and running!

9 Steps to Make Your Own Website

9 Steps to Make Your Own Website

By Julia Ponikvar

Learning to make your own website is not that difficult once you understand these 9 steps.

There are many reasons people are creating a website online. One of the biggest reasons is they want to build their own site to make money online.

If you can follow these easy steps, you don't need to pay someone to build a professional site for you.

Step 1: Planning Your Site

What are you wanting this site to do for you? Sell your own products to make money online? Promote merchants products? How much time and money are you willing to spend? Is the product you are selling or promoting in an over-saturated market already? Do you have ideas to be able to write enough original content to fill up pages within your site? Do you want to start an online business with this venture? Do research on keywords and whom your competitors would be BEFORE you start to make your own website.

Step 2: Find A Niche Market That Interests You

If you are building the web pages to make a profit, start by researching the market to see if it would be profitable. Take 2 or 3 different ideas and see which one has less competition, a high market and keywords that are searched for a lot.

Step 3: Find Web Design Software

There are so many site builders online that can help you make your website. You can use a free program for this step in the process but if you are looking to purchase one, make sure it offers a money-back guarantee. You might even want to try a couple of different programs out and see if it will be able to grow with you.

Step 4: Select a Web Hosting Plan

The cost of hosting can be as little as $5 a month. Research 2 - 3 different companies and not only compare their plans but also look at customer reviews, how their customer service is (e-mail, toll-free number, online chat, etc) and how much it would be to purchase a domain through them. Many hosting companies will give you a free domain when you purchase one of their plans.

Step 5: Register a Domain Name

You don't have to buy the domain from your hosting company. Take a look at different companies and compare the cost. If you find a company that is very inexpensive, make sure you check out how much it will be to renew the name.

Step 6: Writing Original Content

A majority of your web pages need to have original content on them. With all the free content available to you, it may seem easier to add a lot of free content to your site, but this may hurt you in search engine rankings so it's best to stick with your own written content.

Step 7: Search Engine Optimization

SEO is a very important part when you start to build your own website. There are so many free tutorials to teach you and since you need to optimize each page, it will get easier for you. Don't forget to learn on-page and off-page SEO.

Step 8: Generate Website Traffic

The search engines are not the only free way to generate traffic to your site. You can write articles and have them published in different directories, create Squidoo lenses or even use YouTube, MySpace and all the other social media places to get word out about your new site.

Step 9: Begin Today to Build Your Own Website

Building a site does not have to be difficult. Even if you have a small budget, your time, energy and motivation can help you create a great new website.

Ready to begin? Julia Ponikvar has taken all the guess work out of how you can make your own website by creating a step by step tutorial to help you learn how to create a website.

If you need help trying to find a theme for a new site, these website niche ideas can help you think outside the box.

Developing a Website Parallel To Your Business

Developing a Website Parallel To Your Business

By Brent Baldasare

Your website is a portal into your business, and is becoming the number one sales tool for businesses throughout the globe. With the ability to reach millions, your website has the potential to reach new clients and bring in business. Although it may seem simple to create a website, add products and bring in buyers, there is more to coordinating your website with your business than just what's at the surface. You should have a clear motive, a simple and engaging message and features that are parallel to your business to attract the right audience and ultimately bring in sales.

It may sound simple enough, but some businesses often get lost in building a website with so many bells and whistles that the purpose of your website sort of gets lost in translation. If you don't have a clear purpose that defines your brand and can be translated well to your audience, your business will have a difficult time growing. Whether your goal is to generate leads, or to promote social interaction, make sure you and your audience can clearly understand your business's purpose and goals.

Learn what your competitors are doing. Do you see something that you might want to incorporate into your business and website? If they are making noticeable mistakes, competitor analysis can help you avoid making the same ones yourself. If you notice that their use of content, or their use of graphic contributes to their success, you might want to consider how those aspects of their website can translate to the success of your business and brand.

Developing a sales message that relates to your audience is important in communicating your business goals and increasing your website's effectiveness. It's essential to develop content that is cohesive with the rest of your pages, incorporated with your goals and purposes. Be specific and help your audience understand exactly what your want them to do, whether it's to purchase a product or engage with your website's community. Your website represents your company, and aligning your website with your business can potentially help you evolve and increase revenue.

Evaluate your website and make sure your business is translating well onto the web. Brand recognition is also affected by how well your website and business align, so it's important to keep that in mind when creating your site. Reflect your brand's culture and values and adapt that to your home on the internet.

What is a Yahoo Domain Name?

What is a Yahoo Domain Name?

By Gabriel J. Adams

What are domain names for? If you are starting a website, you need to have a web address, also known as your domain or your URL.

There are a wide variety of companies out there with a wide range of prices which sell domain names. Technically you are not buying the name, but a temporary license to use the URL online for a certain period or time (often 1 year at a time). With an annual domain registration, you can assign this address to your site.

You may even purchase multiple domain names and do what's called a "redirect." Using this technique, you can have visitors arrive at the same site regardless of which of your addresses they type into their internet browser.

The company that provides registration of domain names is called a "domain registrar." The very most basic package includes a panel that you can log into and control what happens with your address. This includes essential tools like redirects and so on.

What happens is that your website host has a literal address that your files are stored at on their server, and your domain names are sent to that (usually complex looking) address. This gives an easy to remember way for your site visitors to get to your site without having to see "the man behind the curtain" so to speak.

It doesn't seem fair that, if you come up with a unique website address, that you should have to pay someone to use it. Does it? True. It really doesn't seem fair! However, there is a benefit to the fact that people are required to pay for domain names' registration. This system prevents random people from using up every URL and then wasting these addresses on useless content (or worse, not using them at all).

Build A Website For Free By Mark Bell

Build A Website For Free By Mark Bell

By Alain Burrese

"Build a Website for Free" by Mark Bell is a good resource for those wanting to use open-source and free software to build a website. According to Bell, this open-source and free software will allow you to create fun, interesting, dynamic web pages for very little money. With this book, he shows you how and points you in the right direction. It's written in easy to understand language, so even the novice can follow along and understand. However, it goes deep enough into topics to benefit those with a bit more experience as well. It's a well-organized guide to building websites, if not for free, for very little money. I found it an easy read, and its organization makes it easy to go back to review the sections that will help you with your website.

For some, this book might be all they need to get up and running with a simple site. For others, additional resources will be needed to continue learning and do more. For example, there is a short chapter on the program Joomla. Those that chose that option can learn more by looking to resources that are specifically targeted to using Joomla to build websites.

There is a short introduction where Bell explains what the book is about and how to use it. The book then goes into the basics in chapter one. Again, this is for the new beginner, so some people may know some of this, but basics are always good. I think the part about planning your website first is especially important if you really want to do a good job and achieve your goals for the site. The next chapters discuss topics such as choosing a location for your site, planning your site (told you this was important), designing your site, gathering your tools (lots of sites with free tools), and moving files to and from the Internet.

The next part of the book contains chapters on website building basics such as elements of a website, using existing websites, web page services, HTML basics, working with images, working with multimedia, building a site using HTML, finding out how other sites do things, and making your site mobile. Next comes chapters on site testing and maintenance such as testing your website, promoting your website, and maintaining your website.

From there, Bell goes into how to build a blog using WordPress, building business sites with content management systems, multimedia and using Wiki. The book concludes with an appendix with a list of the most common HTML tags and another with free and open-source software sites.

This is a very good starter book. It is basic and easy to understand, regardless of your experience or knowledge of website building. If you are experienced, you most likely will want a more in-depth guide. The book is really for those who want a website, don't know where to begin, and don't have many funds to invest in one. If that's you, this book is a great place to start.

Increase Your Website Visibility on Google, Facebook and Yahoo

By Pranav Sinha

All websites are constantly faced with the need to increase the number of visitors they receive. A website is ideally a business existing online which requires web consumers to visit the site and buy the products offered by the business. If a business is not able to draw in web users to its site; its web presence suffers significantly and the business itself suffers from little or no generated income. A website strives to reach out to the highest numbers of web users to increase the chances of these web users translates to business consumers. Online marketing efforts are highly structured to target Google, Facebook and Yahoo as a source of web consumers.

Search engine marketing

Search engine marketing is the commonly used method by websites who seek to draw increased web traffic. Web users begin their search for desired products and services through search engines. The web users simply type in keywords which the search engines then use to locate websites providing the products which the web user is looking for. Websites need to have incorporated these keywords to their web content to make it easy for search engines to locate them. Google and Yahoo are the leading search engines used to search for websites. This is why a number of websites are structuring their content in line with the search ranking requirements of these search engines.

Websites need to use rich keywords which are relevant to the products and services they offer. These keywords are obtained from search engines tools like webmasters which list the keywords popularly used to search for the products which a business provides. The website then incorporates these keywords to its contents and submits articles to online article databases which link back to it. If the keywords are integrated effectively, websites rank highly on search engines and web users can easily access them which eventually translate to sales.

Social network marketing

Online marketing efforts have been extended to social networks which boast of high web subscribers. Facebook is currently the leading social network by the number of global web users who have subscribed to it. Businesses are also turning to the social network when it comes to expanding their marketing efforts. Businesses open fan pages and allow the social network subscribers to freely interact with them.

The platform allows a business to inform consumers about their latest sales or new products which they offer. The social network users can respond to the advertisements posted by the business on its fan page and ask questions directly to the business. The business like wise answers consumer questions and can generate a pool of contacts from the social network users who are fans of the business page. The business then sends newsletters and other special information directly to these users' emails or inbox on the social network.

Should I Use Blogger Or WordPress For My Blog?

Should I Use Blogger Or WordPress For My Blog?

By Andy Raybould

Not the first time you've heard this, I bet! It's something I asked myself too, many times. I decided to write this to try and help answer that.

I'm using WordPress now so the simple answer is WordPress. But life is not always that simple. Let me explain...I currently have very limited experience of WordPress but I do have experience of using Blogger and want to pass on my experience to you.

My post here is in no way a means to criticise Blogger but merely to help you choose which to use and to help you understand that your mistakes when using Blogger can prove costly.

I started my blogging life using Blogger.

I was more than happy to use Blogger, after all, it was easy to use and free. It seemed ideal for a new starter. I often looked at other WordPress blogs and thought how nice they looked, how more creative they looked. But, everyone was saying, it's the content that matters. If your content is good enough people will read it and want to return to your site. Just concentrate on posting as many articles as you can on your blog and everything will be OK.

However, some people had warned about the dangers of Blogger. Blogger owns your content and you are trusting all your hard work to be safe in their hands. I didn't really pay much attention to this, after all, why would Blogger be interested in shutting me down? Why would they waste their time on me?

All I had to do was read their Terms and Conditions and behave myself and everyone would be happy. Unfortunately, ignorance is no excuse. Ultimately, I broke the Blogger Terms of Service. Not knowingly and not willingly but I was guilty.

My blog was shut down. I was not given the reason as to how I broke the rules, so that I could learn from my mistakes and start again, ensuring I wouldn't do it again. Unfortunately, there is no appeal.

In summary, if this helps you decide, Blogger or WordPress, I am happy my bad experience has been useful.

As long as you are compliant with their rules there is no reason why you shouldn't use Blogger. Learn their rules and hope you abide by them. If you do use them then please keep a copy of all your posts, just in case you do lose them. This, needless to say, is good practice anyway, irrespective of whether you use Blogger or WordPress.

Oh.. And just in case you do suffer like I did here's a way to get part of your blog back...

Search for your blog in Google and select the cached copy. You can now open this in your favourite web authoring software, or paste into your word processor and at least then you have access to your most recent posts, depending on how many you had listed on your first page, ready to paste into your new blog. That's right....your new blog: Don't give up. Start again if need be but hopefully you won't have to as you will have read this first and learnt from my mistake!

Thank you for reading.

Please do leave some feedback and good luck with your efforts!

Blogger Vs WordPress

Blogger Vs WordPress

By Puripong Koomsin

Blogging is one of the most popular ways to tell the world what you know and think. There are 2 main websites that are offering such services - Blogger and WordPress. In that article I will point some of the main features of both, to make the choice easier for you.

First, you should learn what are the main services and products that are offered by those websites. The best thing about that is the fact that the services are free, so you can open an account and start blogging right away. However, WordPress offers a lot more features than Blogger, like VIP hosting and premium features. Using the premium features, you will be able to have more than 35 visitors assigned to your blog and also a lot of other options like for example better video features and CSS customization. Furthermore, the VIP hosting is suitable for people, who have more than half million visitors per month and the prices start from $500, with one time set up fee of $600.

Both websites are offering hosting features, so when you open an account you will receive a free sub domain name. With Blogger, you can easily setup an account using your Gmail account and also you will be able to make money using the Google AdSense tools. With WordPress on the other hand you will be able to make more than one page, which will allow you to create about us or contact page. Furthermore, there are a lot of themes that you can use to make your blog looking better. However, both those websites do not offer any audio services, but there you can easily upload video clips, which on the other hand you can get from YouTube for example.

Both blogging services are offering a lot of help features, which will allow you to easily learn how to work with the service you had chosen. To access the help section is really easy, because it is located on the top of the page and you will be able to find the information that you need really quickly. However, the help section of Blogger contains a smaller amount of topics, but I really hope that they will develop it soon, so you will be able to find the answers that you need easily.

In conclusion, I would like to say that both those websites are offering great features for their free members, but WordPress is the most suitable choice for all the people, who are looking to get more than one page. Furthermore, there you will have access to more help topics, which will make working with that service a lot easier. On the other hand, Blogger is the most suitable place for all the people who want only to express their opinion and knowledge, but I really hope that Blogger will develop more help sections, because that is the main issue that requires taking care of.

Blogger Versus WordPress - Making a Full Time Income From Blogging

Blogger Versus WordPress - Making a Full Time Income From Blogging

By M Braziel

In the world of blogging for money, there has been a lot of debate as to which is the better blogging platform, Blogger or WordPress. Though you can get both programs for free, in this article we'll be discussing the free version of Blogger hosted by Blogger and the free version of WordPress hosted on your own domain. Though they can both be used for making money, there are some major differences that should be noted.

Blogger

Blogger is, by far, the most popular free hosted blogging platform around. Hundreds of people use it for their affiliate marketing projects everyday, and some even make a full time income from doing so. One large advantage that Blogger has over WordPress is that it has Google juice from the get go. It's much easier and faster to rank a Blogger blog for your keywords than it is a self hosted WordPress blog. This gives your affiliate links and AdSense code exposure much faster and with a lot less work involved.

WordPress

As Blogger is the most popular free hosted blogging platform around, WordPress is the most popular self hosted blogging platform around. One of the biggest advantages to WordPress is that there are literally hundreds of different plugins that can be added to modify the program. From SEO to contact forms to forum plugins, the sky is the limit as to what can be done with WordPress.

So, which is better? Many hardcore internet marketers would easily vote for WordPress due to its versatility. However, there are many who have gotten along just fine using Blogger. In fact, most budding internet marketers start out by using Blogger. In the end, the question should really be, which is better for you? If your focus is primarily on selling affiliate products then you'll probably do just fine with Blogger. But, if your interest lies in list building and website flipping, then you'll likely want to invest in a domain and use WordPress instead. The answer, in the end, is really up to you.

Choosing your blogging platform is the easy part. Next you need to learn exactly how to blog for money - Click Here to check out my website where you can learn about a variety of ways to make money online.

Blogger Or Wordpress? For Beginners Choose Blogger

Blogger Or Wordpress? For Beginners Choose Blogger

By Alvin Makoani

I have heard a lot of debate about this issue. Blogger or WordPress? Just which is the best blogging platform? Many people tend to go ahead and give lots of reasons why they love this or that, but they totally miss the point. Even Tumblr has lots of users who think its awesome.

If you ask me, both platforms are really great. WordPress gets most of its strong points from the fact that it can be customized to virtually anything you want. Blogger on the other hand is user friendly can can be used by anybody who has ever opened an email account. So which way to go?

Since we don't seem to be able to choose which is a greater blogging platform, it would be better to argue from a user point of view. For now lets focus on newbies, guys who are trying to get their feet around the world wide web.

If you are just starting out on the journey of making money blogging, start with Blogger. You may move to WordPress later(It is a really great blogging platform) when you have learnt the ropes. The reasons why I recommend Blogger are very simple.

You can earn before you spend- The free version of WordPress (WordPress.com) doesn't allow you to monetize your site unless you opt to upgrade to self hosted WordPress (WordPress.org). That means you won't earn anything until you have spend some money putting up your blog. Blogger however allows you to monetize your site and you could be making lots of AdSense money before you have spent anything.

It is very easy to use- Anyone reading this article can use Blogger. They have a drag and drop interface that can be used by anybody. Even placing images wherever you want when posting is the same, just drag it to wherever you want it and save.

Google Loves Blogger- Blogger is a Google product and for that reason they love it. I have amassed lots of traffic to my Blogger blogs with simple SEO tricks here and there. I am able to floor big guns when it comes to rankings very easily. Google may not admit it but pretty sure Blogger gets some preference.

Allow you to move to a custom domain- If you don't feel like having the.blogspot extension on your domain name, you can move to a custom domain. Google has a partnership with GoDaddy and all you have to do is buy a domain name for a few dollars a year.

Sounds great? Sure, and that is why I love Blogger. I might migrate to WordPress at some point but I will always have my Blogger blogs around. You can make lots of money with them.

Blogger or WordPress - Which One to Choose?

Blogger or WordPress - Which One to Choose?

By Joseph Lautier

Blogger or WordPress is an ongoing dilemma as to which is better for bloggers starting out. Both are powerful applications and both are free but there are subtle differences which one must be made aware of.

To start this Blogger or WordPress comparison, Blogger is a Google application and is an easy entry point for most aspiring bloggers. Blogger is found at blogger.com. The layout and design of the blogs created by Blogger are simple and easy to grasp. There are a number of modules that can be placed at will in the design stage and allow added functionality to your blog. The drag and place method used in Blogger is comfortable to work with. Moreover the fact that Blogger is owned by Google means indexing and spidering of your blog is easily accomplished. In brief Blogger allows would-be bloggers to get past the design stage quickly and concentrate on what is most important, i.e. creating content.

However Blogger has its limitations. The way to go about creating a blog can feel as being too rigid. A module can only be placed in certain places on your blog. Plugins don't exist so certain added functionality and flexibility could be seen as lacking.

WordPress, on the other hand comes in two forms: the publishing software that is hosted on their site and the downloadable software that is hosted on your site. The former is found at WordPress.com and just like Blogger, is hosted for free on WordPress. It allows you to set up a blog without the need of web hosting. Again, as in the case of Blogger, there are certain limitations because the design and layout of your blog has to conform to the pre-designed layout. However, many seasoned bloggers will agree that there is more flexibility when using WordPress as opposed to Blogger.

To conclude this Blogger or WordPress comparison, I must mention the self hosted software provided by WordPress. The self hosted software is, in my opinion, where WordPress excels. The software is free, is regularly updated but requires that you have web hosting. The software is obtainable from WordPress.org and boasts of having thousands of themes to suit your style. Themes are coded software that give the graphical appearance of your blog. There are also countless plugins to increase the functionality and customization of your blog. In fact, there are so many plugins and themes that you are really spoilt for choice. Please be advised that some themes and plugins are classified as premium, which means they have to be bought. However there are many others that are free and still work perfectly.

Which to Choose - Blogger Or WordPress?

Which to Choose - Blogger Or WordPress?

By Michelle Crossley

Blogging has become a very popular method for sharing knowledge, discuss viewpoints, personalize your business and increase the opportunity for inbound links and traffic. Given the increasing popularity of blogging today, it has become imperative that you choose the perfect medium for posting your blogs. Blogger and WordPress are two leading blogging platforms that have gained in popularity over the years.

Blogger can be described as a popular free hosted blogging platform while WordPress is a popular self hosted blogging platform. However, recent times have seen a switch to more WordPress blogs than Blogger. In order to understand the reasons for this shift and whether it makes sense to switch or not to WordPress, it is important to understand the innate differences between the two and the advantages of one over the other.

WordPress allows you to freely host your blog site onto your hosted website or anywhere else for that matter, which is not possible with a Blogger blog. WordPress hosted on your own server under your own domain will help much more with SEO than having a Blogger account at a separate Blogger URL which directs traffic to them and doesn't keep them on your site.

The amount of control you exercise over your blog site is limited in Blogger as you do not have the option of choosing your content etc but in a WordPress blog, you are given complete control of your blogging content, which makes the latter more compatible for those wanting to market their businesses.
WordPress blogs provides you with more options for customization than Blogger blogs. While this may be intimidating to a novice, it is not very difficult to learn or master.

Changing your layouts and templates using WordPress is very simple and can take place even if you are not aware of programming or coding. However, this is not the case with Blogger blogs, where you need to understand coding, if you want to make changes to your template.

While both WordPress and Blogger offers the user a variety of plug-ins and widgets to use from and create a blog site, it is important to note that WordPress offers more variety and types in comparison to Blogger, whose options are pretty limited in the area. Moreover, the kind of widgets offered by WordPress are more sophisticated than the Blogger ones, like those that allow you to keep track of traffic to your website or even allow you to put up spam filters and the like to ensure good traffic to your website.

It is interesting to note that with WordPress, you can create static pages and generate SEO friendly links with the click of a single button, which again is not possible with Blogger, although many may argue that Blogger is more recognized by Google, as it is owned by Google.

Though both blogs are easily picked up by RSS feeds, a WordPress blog can actually help you monitor your tracking statistics, which makes it more attractive in the long run as the same is not possible with Blogger.

Blogger or WordPress: Which One Will Work Better For You?

Blogger or WordPress: Which One Will Work Better For You?

By Erin P Smith

Blogging is used in a number of different ways. It is so popular that it has become perhaps the best way to express yourself in any forum. There are blogs for almost every topic you can think of! Just this morning I found a blog about messed up cakes... it was hilarious!

Many bloggers also set up their sites with the intention of earning a living with it, either by directly selling products or selling advertising and using AdSense.

When deciding on Blogger or WordPress, the first thing you must decide is what you're using your blog for. For me this is the deciding factor when deciding which platform to use.

Blogger or WordPress: The Comparison

First of all, I'm referring to WordPress.org, where you buy the hosting and install the program itself. That right there is one of the problems with using WordPress because it is a little more technical to set up and maintain than a Blogger site. However, there are thousands of tutorials all over the web that can show you how to deal with problems as they arise. And, after a while, you'll have a thorough understanding of how to use it.

With Blogger, it's much more plug-n-play. You fill out a little info about yourself, and you can start posting. Almost that fast too!

However, there are two main important debates with the Blogger or WordPress issue. The first is the domain name. With WordPress, you can purchase your own domain, and it can be whatever you want. With blogger, your domain will have the word "blogspot" as in yourdomain.blogspot.com.

The second issue is that you don't own your Blogger site. If for someone reason you break some silly rule, or for whatever arbitrary reason Google comes up with, you could have your blog taken down.

With WordPress, you host it on a 3rd party site and you own the domain. Essentially, the site is yours and cannot be taken down.

I have also noticed that WordPress tends to rank better on Google. I've had dozens of posts show up on the front page of Google, when Blogger sites are nowhere to be seen.

Blogger Or WordPress: When To Use Each

I personally believe that Blogger is fantastic for two things. One, anyone who just simply wants to share their thoughts with the world completely for fun should absolutely use Blogger. It's probably not worth the hassle to set up a WordPress site in this case. Also, if you're just barely, barely, barely starting a business and don't have any time or money to work with WordPress, you can use it for a little while.

However, when using your blog for making an income, I highly suggest using WordPress. The domain name looks much more professional and you don't want your blog shut down for some dumb reason when it's making you good money.

And, once you've learned the basics of setting up your site, then you can charge to set up other WordPress sites! This is a great way to earn some fast, easy money.

As you can probably tell, this Blogger or WordPress debate for me is easy. The hands-down winner is WordPress. Even though it costs a little money, it's really only like 8 bucks a month. It can be a little work, but it's not hard to find sources on the internet to help you.

Why Design Websites in WordPress?

Why Design Websites in WordPress?

By Eldred Curwen

WordPress was first introduced to the internet in 2003. It grew from the b2/cafelog designed by Michel Valdrighi in 2001. It was conceived in order to improve the layout and readability of content produced frequently and often. It started with less than 10 users but since then it has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging platform in the world. So why is it also being used as a CMS running literally millions of full blown websites offering far more than just blogging?

As a blogging tool WordPress is/was imperious and still is. However as a website management tool it excels at many of the more mundane requirements for a website in the early '10s of the 21st Century.

Take for example the templating or theming of a WordPress website. The tool has become so popular that there are literally thousands of free themes available for a web designer to use or alter to create a unique theme suitable for a client. But that, you might say, is available to many CMS's such as Joomla. It is, but the theming of a WordPress site is so much more logical than many other CMS's offer.

So what, any web designer worth their pay should be able to design a theme for many of the more popular open source CMS platforms. That is true, but it is the combination of this simple process and many other attributes of WordPress that build together a compelling reason for using it as a website CMS.

The fact that the hosting requirements are so simple to satisfy, the administration area are so intuitive, the sites run quickly and that there is a vast following of keen and skilled community members who often provide answers to sticky questions almost instantaneously cuts out so much design and development time that costs can be pared to a minimum.

Websites that are built on the WordPress open source platform are extremely easy to build into stunningly complex website management tools. Take for example ecommerce; there are a multitude of ecommerce plugins for the WordPress platform. Each of these plugins has its benefits and its restrictions but it lowers the entry skill level for a web sited designer/ builder to such a level that almost no coding skills are required at all.

Of course reducing the level of coding required for a web designer is good in one way, but it also provides problems in the future. Where will the future coders come from? Do we need to be concerned about the lack of coding skills? Maybe but yet again this reduction in work benefits both the client and the designer in that time is money and a reduction in time inevitably reduces the cost for the website as well.

Even complex ecommerce and CRM sites can be built using WordPress, but here the level of bespoke integration does begin to build. Many websites require secure transactions, multiple customer emails, inventory or file management systems and so on and so on. WordPress and its plugin structure work very well in this environment but like all large sites built on modular frameworks it is important not to overload the server with unnecessary workload. It is now that the web site designer, his coders and his site architects come to the fore front of the design and implementation process.

WordPress can become slower than it should be if the website is over burdened with multiple plugins, or even worse plugins that clash or even stop working in certain circumstances. A classic problem often experienced even by the better web site design team is the conflict between multiple code scripts being included on the website as a consequence of lazy plugin writing. Loading multiple versions of the jquery library, for example, is one sure way to break a page or its functionality.

Given that WordPress offers a powerful and resourceful environment within which to build sites it is currently the pick of the crop when it comes to which CMS to use. As a tool to build website on it has natural qualities that allow fast and cheap website construction, but should the client know what you are doing?

Selling a client an all singing all dancing website and claiming it is all built by you is fine but it isn't entirely truthful. Some designers even go so far as to remove any reference to WordPress or the theme designer (if used) and produce a white label CMS which they then re label as there own. Again this isn't entirely ethical but as long as the designers maintain it properly it isn't a problem.

The problem of maintenance, either for the white label designer, or for the less skilled web site builder is that of security, maintenance and updates. WordPress is frequently updated both for security reasons and to include the latest and greatest new gizmos. White label products and to some extent other designers tend to build and forget their sites and their clients. Many clients won't pay for continued maintenance on their site as they don't perceive the need for it. Is there a solution to this? Well yes of course. Forcing the client to partake in a maintenance contract should solve that problem, but if a designer wants the contract it may be the first option declined by the customer.

The solution is proper training. This is where WordPress is almost at its best. It has the most intuitive and simple administration area of all the current crop of CMS/blogging platforms. Teaching a new client how to look after and add and edit their own content is ridiculously simple. there are a huge number of resources in video and on sites explaining all the simple and slightly more complex procedures. As long as a web designer encourages and makes simple the learning process there is no reason why a new web site owner can't maintain their new WordPress site for a long way into the future.

WordPress comes out on top for so many reasons when deciding, as a designer, what platform to build a new website in. But if there is one thing that ought to be remembered is that the website belongs to the client. It is their site and as such they should have the easiest and simplest CMS to use. WordPress was designed from the ground up to be that simple CMS and so it is a perfect platform for new websites to consider as the CMS of the early 21st Century.

Top 10 Mistakes on Business Websites

By Phyllis Edson

When putting together your business website, avoid these 10 common mistakes which can cause confusion, cause customers to leave and cost you business.
1) Difficult to navigate. Whether you have a 5-page website or a 20-page website, make sure your major headings are easy to find on your landing page. Make sure they work and each goes to the page it's supposed to. Include links on every page that go somewhere else. For example, on each of your pages in which you discuss your services, somewhere on that page, link it to a "Contact" page. Be sure to make it easy to navigate.
2) Incomplete website. Try not to include pages which are "Under Construction." If there are pages which have yet to be completed, just don't put a button on the main page that goes to an empty page.
3) Thin content. Photos and videos are a great way to show off your products and services. However, websites still need content. People do like to read and so do the search engines. In order for your website to be found by the search engines and people, your website needs quality content and lots of it.
4) Grammar and spelling errors. Make sure everything is spelled correctly, is grammatically correct and makes sense. Check to make sure names (including the name of the business!) are spelled correctly as well.
5) Lack of location, location, location. Be sure to include the location of your business. If you have a home business and don't want to include your street address, at least include your city, state and country in the footer of every page. This helps the search engines and clients find you by location.
6) Lack of contact information. Don't forget to include at least one, if not several, ways to contact you. A contact page is one option. A business e-mail and a business phone number are other options. Also, they ought to be in multiple places on your website. If they're difficult to find, people will just leave the site and you'll lose the sale.
7) Difficult to read. Before you, or your designer, finish with the website, look at it and try to read it. A variety of things can make it difficult to read. Sometimes, the colors of typefaces, background colors and different type faces can make a website difficult to read. Customers won't stick around to try to wade through it, nor should they have to.
8) Assuming "if you build it, they will come." Getting a website indexed by the search engines and getting visitors takes a lot of time and work. Just getting it online is not the end. It's just the beginning.
9) No analytics. Be sure to include analytics for your website so you can track visitors and know whether anyone is visiting your website, how long they're staying and where they're coming from.
10) Website is done. Websites are never done. They need to be maintained, updated and tweaked. The search engines need to see that the website is being maintained. Plus, if you have information on there that customers can see is old and outdated, they'll wonder whether your business is still operating.
These are 10 of the most common mistakes businesses make in building a website. If you avoid these, your website should be helpful and ready for business.
