10 Ways to Get More Traffic to Your Blog

By Celia Bo

Here are 10 ways to get more traffic to your blog.
1. Make comments on blogs with similar topics. Link your blog posts to other blogs. Many bloggers will automatically link back to you using trackbacks. However due to the number of spams, some bloggers do not support trackbacks.
2. Write articles and send them to directories and ezine publishers. Put your information and place a link to your blog on the resource box.
3. Submit your blog to Blog Carnival. A Blog Carnival is a post in a blog that summarizes a collection of articles from many different blogs. If you have articles featured on the front page, you will enjoy a spike in new readers.
4. Put a signature file with a link to your blog and a tagline on all your outgoing emails. You can set up the signature file on your email client.
5. Participate actively in forums and newsgroups. Leave comments in the forums and newsgroups with your signature file containing a link to your blog.
6. Use social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Slumbleupon and This is where members submit contents and allow others to judge or vote for it. You can have a huge traffic spike from Digg if your content features on the front page.
7. Link baiting such as organizing contests, competition, awards, quizzes and surveys helps to get more traffic. Do a survey and release the statistics, be the first to be in the news to try something new, give away some of value, provide useful tools like wordpress templates or interview a celebrity or someone popular.
8. Run a competition on your blog for a period of time and announce the winners. This will get more traffic to your blog as many bloggers will participate and want to see who the winners are.
9. Build relationships with other bloggers and request for links. Some of the bloggers' traffic will flow to yours once your blog is linked to their blogs.
10. You can also get more traffic to your blog by optimizing your blog. Place your keywords in your url, meta tags, heading tags, image alt tags, anchor texts and the body texts especially at the beginning and the end. Don't sacrifice your readers' experience of your blog just for the sake of SEO. Interlink within posts and use the related posts feature to link relevant topics you have written. Link the articles to categories on the sidebar and menus. Avoid duplicate content as much as possible. Request for links from highly ranked sites. Make sure you are linked to sites relevant to your topic and keywords. People will link to you if you have quality content on your blog. Swap links with other blogs and submit your blogs to directories.
