How Do People Make Money Blogging?

Many blogs are started strictly due to a passion for the topic. You are so interested in a subject, you need an outlet to share and connect with others. As the months go by however, you may find the time and energy required to maintain and market your blog is snowballing. Many of your readers are asking more from you and you are asking more from yourself. In order to take things to the next level, you need compensated for your time. It may be time to learn how to make money with a blog.

There are several ways you can make money with your blog. The ones that will be most profitable for you will depend on your audience, your blog's niche and what you personally feel most comfortable with. Some avenues are easier to setup and maintain, while others may require ongoing maintenance and promotion.

AdSense is a favorite among many bloggers. By setting up AdSense on your blog, you are authorizing Google to post relevant ads that are related to your posts. You may earn a small amount each time one of your readers clicks one of those ads, or you may possibly earn a bit for every 1,000 times that an ad is served up. While AdSense is relatively hands-off once you get it going, many smaller bloggers find the payment threshold to be quite high.

If your niche is one that has a variety of products and services related to the topic, you may be able to earn through sponsored posts. There are several companies that act as a middle man connecting brands with bloggers. Those brands often provide compensation for reviewing their product or service in an effort to introduce their business to your readers.

Affiliate marketing is big business. In this scenario, you are paid a commission for each sale you generate. If you mention a product or service that you have an affiliation with and one of your readers makes a purchase based on your recommendation, you get paid a portion of that sale.

You may also choose to sell ad space. Many bloggers receive compensation for allowing a company to place a banner on their blog. This does require a bit more work than other avenues as you will need to publicize that you have space available, come up with rates and ensure that these ads are rotated when the company's paid time has expired, but it can be highly lucrative if you have a popular site.

As you can see, you have several options. And, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Do what feels comfortable. Experiment with the different avenues until you find a good fit. Always advertise your blog effectively to ensure you have the most options available when you are ready to turn the corner into blog profits.
