Well I'm here to share some of the powerful blogging secrets to you today! You too can learn to blog just like the professionals do!! So take note!

Powerful Secret #1 Create Powerful Headlines

For new bloggers as well as veteran bloggers it is important to write a compelling headline. Having a compelling headline will draw your visitor to open up your article and read it. This means that your visitor will stay on your website/blog longer and possible continue reading other articles. Using your keywords as part of your compelling headlines will also help with SEO, which means getting your article indexed in Google and other search engines. You need to know your target audience and what type of language that appeals to them. Get into the mind of your target audience and you have the words that will work for them. Remember there are no shortcuts here. You have to figure out your precise audience and write directly to the way those people feel.

Powerful Secret #2 Submit Your Article to Directories

OK, I know what you're thinking, I really do. You're thinking why would I submit my articles to directories when I just posted it to my website/blog! Right...see I know you were. Submitting your articles to the top directories helps to brand YOU and to get you and your website/blog out in the search engines. The article directories have a high page rank in the search engines and your article will get indexed in Google and other search engines quicker. EzineArticles is where I first submitted my articles and they have a very high rating with the search engines. I'm now considered an "Expert Author" which is great. There are several other directories that you can submit your post to but start with ExinzeArticles first and then submit to the others. Submitting your articles will give you back links to your website/blog.

Powerful Secret #3 Make Use of Social Media

Using Social Media as a marketing strategy in your website/blog is very important to new bloggers. Social Media is all the buzz and is very important for viral marketing your website/blog. It helps to spread the word about your website/blog, posts and your business. It is online marketing at its best. When you have visitors to your website/blog and you give them a means to share your post to others that is viral marketing. Using a Facebook and/or Twitter plugin gives your visitors an easy way to help "advertise" your business. Using social networking is a like a big neon sign which speaks volumes about your website/blog saying check this out!

Powerful Secret #4 Use Ping Techniques

Ping techniques? What? As a new blogger I realize that there are so many new ideas, terms and things that must be completed to building your website/blog. Now don't worry you will learn what you need when you need it. So, what is pinging and why should you ping your website/blog? In a nutshell pinging your website/blog allows you to notify or inform Google, other search engines and directories that your site has been updated. It's like raising that red flag telling search engines that you have something new on your website/blog, come and see! Now you only want to ping your site once a day and evening would be the best time. Here is just one site that I would recommend, pingler it's free and easy.

Powerful Secret #5 Use Powerful Plugins

There are many different plugins and it can be confusing to new bloggers to decide which ones are the best and just why you would use them. If you are using WordPress and I highly recommend that you use WordPress to build your website/blog you can take advantage of some great plugins like "relevant posts" or "most popular posts." The names tell what they are. These are placed at the end of each post helping your visitors to know of some other great posts you have on your site. Also social networking plugins such as Twitter and Facebook are a couple of other great plugins to add to your website/blog. Plugins will make your blog more interactive and will also allow your visitors to find things easier!

Powerful Secret #6 Write For Low Relevant Competitive Keywords

YIKES! Keywords, low competitive keywords what is this you may be asking? For new bloggers this can be kind of scary, but don't worry it can be something to learn and accomplished. Yes, even by you! (ha!) Keyword research is the most important part of blogging and writing your posts. You need to do some research on your keywords for your niche. Make sure they are relevant to what your blogging about. Keyword research needs to be completed before you do any writing because you don't want to waste your time on something that is not going to work. You want to write for the low competitive keywords because it will be easier to get Google and other search engines to index your article.

Powerful Secret #7 Post Comments On Others Blogs

With this powerful secret for new bloggers it can't be stressed enough the importance to visit other blogs in your niche. First you want to see what your competition is doing. Second you want to read their posts and make a comment. Make sure that your comment is relevant and meaningful not just thanks for sharing. Give your reason why you like or did not like the post and be honest but not nasty. The third reason for making comments is it gives you a back link to your website. The best back link effort comes from getting a prominent blogger to put your URL into his Blogroll.

Powerful Secret #8 Use Pictures and Videos

The use of pictures and videos in websites/blogs is another new blogger must do. The reason is Google and other search engines really favor the use of videos and pictures in website/blogs. Video marketing is a hot item now is they are easy for you to produce yourself. The best videos are produced from your own recording effort and putting in your own keywords for great SEO. However, you can still use others videos in your posts if you need or want. There is nothing wrong with using other people's videos as long as the video works with your niche.

Powerful Secret #9 Blogging Tools Free Online Resources

Many expert bloggers have several blogging tools in their arsenal to help separate their blog from the rest. This is an area that the experts don't want new bloggers it know or to have in their tool belts. Being a successful blogger requires work, understanding that success does not happen overnight and to learn to how to find great resources. Being noticed about the expert bloggers comes with determination, investment of time, improving your skills and to remember to remain on the cutting edge. A couple great resources to use on your website/blog is Google Analytics and some great SEO tools. All in One SEO is a great one to use with WordPress.

Powerful Secret #10 Learn From Your Mistakes

To me this is the most important secret for new bloggers to remember. I have been there and have made many mistakes however; I have learned from these mistakes and have improved my websites/blogs because of these mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, remember that! You may not realize that you made or make mistakes. You start blogging and work hard to get your website/blog going and don't get any results. What you are doing is repeating some common mistakes. If you're not making mistakes on your website/blog then you're not working! You need to invest time on your website/blog. If something is not working, then change it, tweak it and then give it time to see if it works.

New bloggers need to remember that blogging involves planning and plenty of work to be successful. Learning the blogging secrets from the expert bloggers is fundamental to separating a good blogger from the thousands of other good bloggers. Experts do not want other bloggers to know these secrets for the one simple reason...you're their competition. Their competition will grow and then make their task more difficult to stay on top.

5 Steps to Keeping Your Blogging Resolutions for 2013

5 Steps to Keeping Your Blogging Resolutions for 2013

By Vicky Whisenant

This year I will...

This sentence is familiar to everyone. Just after those midnight toasts, everyone shares their goals for the coming year. On the personal side, you may vow to lose weight, to exercise more, or be nicer to your neighbors. And even though you may not mention it over champagne, you have probably thought of similar resolutions for the coming year.

While most people have abandoned their New Year's resolutions within just a couple weeks, you want to make sure that your business goals are not so easily pushed aside.

A sound business leader knows the value of having goals that help you and your team focus your everyday actions into long term results. Your goals probably include everything from annual revenue to customer retention to successful product and service launches.

If you are interested in content marketing and understand the immense value of internal marketing driven by dynamic blog content, then you definitely need to set some goals for your blog this coming year.

Here are 5 steps you can take to setting and implementing a successful blog strategy for 2013:

1. Review what you did last year and ask yourself:

  • What were the most popular posts in terms of number of comments, shares, and reads?
  • What totally flopped?
  • What did you have the most fun writing about?

2. Look ahead to the New Year for any major events, launches, or updates that are already in your calendar.

3. Take the successes and failures of the past year and the new stuff your business will be doing in the coming year to formulate a list of new blog categories and post types you want to focus on this year.

4. Determine if you will be the sole blogger, if your staff will contribute, or if you will be seeking guest bloggers. This gives you an idea of how many writers you have and reasonable amount of posts to commit to on a weekly basis.

5. Take all the categories, bloggers, and date specific information to create a master editorial calendar. You can fill in more details as the months go by, but getting a sound plan formed will help you stay on target.

Now, all that's left to do is start writing! And remember, if you get stuck and feel like your content marketing and blogging resolution is about to flounder, pull out that editorial calendar and the lists you made, and let them inspire you to keep blogging.

Whatever your 2013 blogging goal is, put it somewhere you can see it every day, track your progress towards it, and stay focused on reaching your goals.

Review 10 Freelance Writing Sites

Review 10 Freelance Writing Sites

By Anita Choudhary
With a host of freelance writing sites requiring writers to work from home, most writers are confused about selecting a legit company. Here are 10 freelance writing sites that do not need writers to bid on projects, but you need to be accepted by the company based on specific criteria for long-term writing at different pay scales.
Media Piston: It is a UK-based company that only asks for 3 links to published writing with your byline when you apply. They have varied priced writing jobs and while applying, specific information on the writing experience is needed. All content is first approved by the site editor and then the client. It pays weekly by PayPal.
Demand studios: It is only open to residents of US, UK, Australia and Canada. It has a fixed pay per article ($7.5 to $15) and for applying, you have to submit a full resume and writing sample. For the first 3 articles you are considered on probation. You have to submit references and resources for all articles.
Internet Brand Publishing: They are legit companies with a multitude of sites to write for. Most of the articles pay $4-$10. To apply you need to fill in an application with relevant application, a sample for the said category but they don't need references or resources. The benefit is that there is regular work and monthly payments.
Wisegeek.com: It only takes writers periodically and you have to submit two high-quality samples and resume when applying within the application. It pays around $10-$15 per article on a wide range of topics. The article pool has thousands of topics and each writer works with an editor. Revisions maybe needed frequently as they have fact based with little fluff while strict editing guidelines are in place.
Contently: You need to have worked with major publications/blogs to apply while profile photo is a must. You can log-in through Facebook if you want. If you qualify with your credentials, you are accepted and clips added to your profile.
Valley Direct Media: With near constant work and set payment per article ($5-$8), it pays weekly. Applying is easy with an online application and you need to answer a few questions for qualifying.
About.com: A reputed site that was acquired by New York Times, it provides authentic information on nearly all subjects. The job openings include subject specialists with credentials. Pay is monthly and usually there is a need for a specialist content provider in different subjects.
eCopywriters: They hire only high-quality writers and pay varies from 2 cents to 30 cents per word, depending on the project. Pay is on a monthly basis and articles take as long as two to three weeks to be approved by internal editors and then the clients. However, work is consistent.
Content Divas: It is easy to apply and you are asked to submit a free writing sample on a given subject within 24 hours. If you qualify, you are assigned a set of articles. The pay varies from 2 cents to 10 cents, depending upon whether it is an article, blog or press release. Payment is made within a week, while some projects are paid 50% upfront.
Break Studios: It is easy to fill the online application, submit resume and sample of your writing describing your experience. If accepted, you can pick 10 articles (with specific guidelines) at a time from the content pool. But it only pays $8 per article regardless of the word count.

How A Fashion Blog Can Make You Serious Money Online Part-Time

By Michaelangelo Flores

To put it simply, people start a fashion blog as more of a hobby and love to share the new things they've bought or just stuff they just want to try on to show their friends. It's quite easy and similar in concept to a food blog as a lot of people also love to do. I'm sure a lot of your friends on Facebook are posting random photos of what they find interesting along the way and that seems to be a growing trend nowadays especially with things like Instagram and Pinterest going around.
A fashion blog is definitely just as popular because it's so simple but also helps other people with the same interests perhaps make buying decisions about what stuff they want to wear or what they think looks sexy. It can be just as simple as going around shops or even going around your wardrobe and trying things on, taking snap shots and uploading it - then writing a few comments and descriptions about it on your blog.
The thing that not many people are aware of though that you can actually make a decent income online from a fashion blog itself even if you just do it part-time!
There are a whole closet full of ways to make some crazy money with your fashion blog. You first need to understand the concept of how exactly the money is made from this though. It's pretty much similar to how magazines or even television or news programs make their money. It's mainly the advertising and the content.
People watch TV or read magazines because of the content, right? Same thing with fashion blogs - people love looking at that stuff or reading about it. And it doesn't just have to be photos and writing. People also love doing videos too. But along the way, TV programs have commercials. Magazines obviously have some ads along the pages. But what about a fashion blog then?
Again, there are many ways to play around this concept. One of the basic and popular things to do with this is Google AdSense. It's basically allowing Google to load up your site with ads relating to your niche and every time somebody visits and clicks on them, they pay you a little bit of money.
Other people who do fashion blogs also sell their own garments and have a mini shop within their blog that their audience can check out which is also very popular and is a huge shift from the retail world to the online market.
The basic thing to understand is that most people don't make money with fashion blogs because they don't sell anything.
Even if you're part-time, you can start a fashion blog without having to knowing how to set up a website. Setting up a blog is actually easy and often low cost. A lot of people assume that it takes a lot of time - it really doesn't. It doesn't take that long to just take photos of whatever you feel like sharing and upload it to your blog. Then all you really need to do is share it around in whichever ways you can.
You can easily start a fashion blog using WordPress and pick a theme and start blogging. You don't have to be hardcore and get a professional web designer to make one for you. The thing you need to really think about is what you're going to sell or rather, how to monetize your blog.
Once you have those things in mind, then all you really need to do is start blogging daily, tell others and get money!
Want to start a fashion blog right away without all the hassles of setting everything up, with an affiliate system that can pay you 100% commissions? Check out the 7DigitBluePrint and get your own fashion blog for as little as $25 to start!

Don't Go Too Extreme When Choosing Keywords For Google AdSense

Don't Go Too Extreme When Choosing Keywords For Google AdSense

By Morris Zhang

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) of keyword for Google AdSense is a hot topic in all webmaster or advertising forums. Some guys blame their low PPC keywords for their humble return. Some guys tend to ask what are the keywords which the highest PPC and plan to build up independent websites or write blogs around them. There are still some guys trying to make money by providing an updated list of keywords sorted from high PPC to low PPC. Needless to say, no one who hopes to make money purely through Google AdSense will be so stupid to choose the keywords with the lowest PPC. However, should the webmasters follow the strategy of targeting the keywords with highest PPC in order to maximize their return? Not really.

To facilitate your understanding, let's go through the mechanism of making money from Google AdSense briefly. If a visitor comes to your site and clicks an ad, you and Google will share the revenue from each click, which equals to the Pay-Per-Click price set by some advertiser. Based on this logic, the determinants of your Google AdSense earnings including the followings:

  • The traffic of the website. More accurately, the number of unique Visitors of your site. Let's designate it as N.
  • The Click-Through-Rate (CTR) of your ads.
  • The average PPC of the keywords determined by your website content.

So, the total revenue R equals N*CTR*PPC. Obviously, PPC is not the sole factor that determines your return from Google AdSense. You have to maintain a relative high standard of quality of your website and implement effective and continuing promotion strategy, so as to ensure a good deal of traffic. Meanwhile, in order to achieve a satisfactory CTR, you have to make effective use of ad places in your websites and in the meantime not overuse your website's ad capacity so as not to scare your visitors away. Content quality and relativity are quite important for CTR, too. Thus, although centering your topic or content around keywords with high PPC is quite important, you have to achieve a satisfactory result of your website traffic and CTR as well.

However, a high PPC never means a highest PPC. If you automatically believe a highest PPC will secure a highest return from Google AdSense, normally you are wrong. Based on my own AdSense data, the keywords which bring me the most return cumulatively are those ones who have middle to upper level of PPC, but far from the highest. Because the web pages related to middle to upper level of PPC are, in a statistical sense, always have a much higher amount of traffic and a much higher CTR than those web pages with the keywords whose PPCs are among the highest, and the traffic and CTR advantages together far outweigh the disadvantage out of a relative low PPC. Of course, this conclusion is purely based on my experience. If your experience is totally different from mine, don't hesitate to leave your arguments here in the comment section.

Anyway, I suggest you not go too extreme when choosing keyword for your Google AdSense program. My experience tells me that targeting at the keywords with a middle to upper PPC will bring you a much larger return. Why not take a shot?

Can Guest Blogging Help Your Article Marketing?

Can Guest Blogging Help Your Article Marketing?

By Sean R Mize

To me, articles and blog posts are about the same thing. In fact, an article is a short snippet of information, long enough to teach one simple thing. And a blog post is a short snippet of information, long enough to teach one simple thing. So a blog post is... an article in my opinion. So then it could be argued that all blog marketing or blog posting is really article marketing and article posting.

The advantage I see with using blogs for your article dissemination is that with blogs you tend to see more traffic and frankly and usually, stronger websites than most article directories. Now there is one article directory that I use pretty much exclusively, and the reason I use it is because of the phenomenal traffic and conversion rates I get from their traffic. But other than that one site, I think the biggest way to grow your article marketing is to get your content on niche blogs, and the more popular the blogs, the better.

So how do you do it? How do you get on the blogs?

The easy way I generally recommend to my clients is to become a guest blogger on the site where you want to be posted.

And I recommend becoming a guest blogger on multiple sites. That way each day you can write several articles and have them posted.

Now the real key with guest blogging is the traffic you get from the posts. And in order to get traffic from the posts, not only must they be good articles, they must also be on blogs that get a fair amount of traffic already.

So how do you become a guest blogger?

Here is what I recommend:

Google "top blogs in (your niche) and get at least 3 lists of top blogs in your niche. Go to each blog and see if it is a site that you might like to write for. Then go to alexa.com and make sure their ranking is near or less than 100,000. (In the long run, you might want to target 50,000 or less, but when you are starting out, take what you can get for practice.)

Write the owner of each blog and ask him if he needs a new guest blogger. Send at least 3 samples of your work. If you have articles published online, send him the links to read them. Warning: if your articles are lousy, he probably won't want you to write for his blog.

Once someone accepts your offer, be sure you can put an author byline or call to action at the end of the article so you can get traffic to your site from the articles.

Once someone accepts your offer, find out what kind of articles he wants, and perhaps if he has article topics he wants you to use. Then submit the articles.

Rinse and repeat. Aim for at least 10 sites to write for.

How Do People Make Money Blogging?

How Do People Make Money Blogging?

By Angie Nelson

Many blogs are started strictly due to a passion for the topic. You are so interested in a subject, you need an outlet to share and connect with others. As the months go by however, you may find the time and energy required to maintain and market your blog is snowballing. Many of your readers are asking more from you and you are asking more from yourself. In order to take things to the next level, you need compensated for your time. It may be time to learn how to make money with a blog.

There are several ways you can make money with your blog. The ones that will be most profitable for you will depend on your audience, your blog's niche and what you personally feel most comfortable with. Some avenues are easier to setup and maintain, while others may require ongoing maintenance and promotion.

AdSense is a favorite among many bloggers. By setting up AdSense on your blog, you are authorizing Google to post relevant ads that are related to your posts. You may earn a small amount each time one of your readers clicks one of those ads, or you may possibly earn a bit for every 1,000 times that an ad is served up. While AdSense is relatively hands-off once you get it going, many smaller bloggers find the payment threshold to be quite high.

If your niche is one that has a variety of products and services related to the topic, you may be able to earn through sponsored posts. There are several companies that act as a middle man connecting brands with bloggers. Those brands often provide compensation for reviewing their product or service in an effort to introduce their business to your readers.

Affiliate marketing is big business. In this scenario, you are paid a commission for each sale you generate. If you mention a product or service that you have an affiliation with and one of your readers makes a purchase based on your recommendation, you get paid a portion of that sale.

You may also choose to sell ad space. Many bloggers receive compensation for allowing a company to place a banner on their blog. This does require a bit more work than other avenues as you will need to publicize that you have space available, come up with rates and ensure that these ads are rotated when the company's paid time has expired, but it can be highly lucrative if you have a popular site.

As you can see, you have several options. And, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Do what feels comfortable. Experiment with the different avenues until you find a good fit. Always advertise your blog effectively to ensure you have the most options available when you are ready to turn the corner into blog profits.

How Can I Get Paid to Blog?

How Can I Get Paid to Blog?

By Angie Nelson

Many bloggers come to a point where they would like to get paid to blog. This applies to new and veteran bloggers alike. They may feel compensation will give them further motivation to keep blogging. Perhaps blogging turned out to be more time or energy than they had anticipated. Regardless, there are numerous avenues available to start earning a profit from a blog.

Affiliate Marketing

One of the best money-making avenues for blogs is affiliate marketing. As an affiliate, a blogger can earn a commission on sales they generate by promoting a merchant's products. As an example, a blogger with a cooking site may write a review on their favorite cookware and insert their affiliate link within that review. If a reader of that content takes the blogger's recommendation and makes a purchase, that blogger would receive a percentage of that sale. The majority of online retailers have affiliate programs available, either directly or through an advertising network.

Cost Per Click Ads

Many online merchants or service providers advertise their businesses through Cost Per Click (CPC) ads. These ads may not only show up in search engine results, but also on blogs utilizing ads. When a blog visitor clicks on one of those ads, the advertiser then pays a set rate for that click. That rate is then divided accordingly between the blogger and the advertising network. In order for CPC ads to be effective, a blogger must have a working understanding of SEO and keywords. Those ads are displayed based on keywords within the blog's text. If no keywords are optimized, related ads may not be displayed. The more relevant the ads, the more likely a click will occur.

Pay Per Post

Another way to get paid to blog is by participating in pay per post sites. Many advertisers want to get their business in front of as many eyes as possible. They can wait around for word of mouth to happen naturally, or they can speed up the process by paying bloggers to review their website or product. The blogger and advertiser agree on a price, and the blogger agrees to blog about the advertiser. These are honest reviews. Good or bad, the advertiser must pay up if the blogger follows through according to spec.

If you are looking to make money blogging, do know there are numerous avenues available. The above three are only the tip of the iceberg. Each blogger must decide what they are comfortable with and what avenue works best for their blog and their readers. Some methods work better in certain niches than others. Set aside some time to experiment with each.

How To Develop Article Marketing To Raise Your Profile And Drive Traffic To Your Site

How To Develop Article Marketing To Raise Your Profile And Drive Traffic To Your Site

By Sumi Olson

Many professionals wonder how article marketing can help them as a business strategy. They worry about finding topics to write about, finding the time to write, and whether after all the effort, any of their pieces would be read. For others, writing for public consumption can seem a daunting prospect and leave them open to ridicule or criticism.

Yet article writing can be a very powerful way of promoting your personal brand and products & services. If article marketing is done well the very exposure that initially seemed so intimidating can be the mechanism to drive traffic back to your destination websites. This article looks the main benefits of article writing and its value to professionals and business managers in building profile and driving traffic.

Creating high-quality, original content which is of value and relevance to your niche helps you build your reputation and standing within your subject area. Drawing from your wealth of experience and knowledge, you can offer your own perspective and insights on a range of topics and interests. Using themes drawn from questions that your niche frequently asks, you can show that you understand the concerns and issues that motivate them.

It's important to remember that you are promoting your skills and expertise through article marketing. It's not an overt sales platform where you blatantly sell your services and products. Articles are not sales pages but a way of communicating valuable wisdom to your target audience. They serve as a showcase from which your niche will see how you are qualified to help them.

Develop a routine to produced new articles on a regular basis so that you build momentum and a body of material to showcase your proficiency in your niche. Select an article directory which has a good reputation and receives high visitor numbers accessing their article database. If you produce excellent articles which receive attention, then you can be assured of a regular volume of visitors from the directory to your own sites.

Don't make your articles over-complicated - instead create a series of shorter, simpler articles which cover specific aspects of the main topic. One useful technique is to use the top ten questions in your FAQ (frequently asked questions) list as the basis of ten topics from which you can develop a series of articles. Articles word counts range from 400 to 1,200 words and with practice you can create focused articles within this framework.

Increase your viewing figures by giving your articles titles which include strong keywords. This means using popular words and phrases which appear in search engine searches. If your target audience is searching for information on dealing with a particular topic or theme, then using the same phrases or keywords means your article will appear higher up in search results.

Free tools such as Google Keywords will help you see what words are being used and gives you an insight into the mind-set of the community needing help. Using keywords within the body of the article will also help with search engine rankings but avoid over-using them at the expense of intelligibility.

Picking topics that matter to your niche and then using sensible search engine optimisation techniques (SEO) will help your articles find an audience. If your content then is engaging, interesting and delivers then it increases the chances of your articles being used in other websites. If you can create well-crafted articles that have a strong appeal to a niche, other content providers will happy to use them to add value for their own readership.

This is why your articles must be focused on the topic and not your services - few external sites will be interested in pushing a sales pitch. Having found a wider audience through these third-party sites, you'll significantly raise the numbers of viewers who'd be inclined to connect with you if they were given the opportunity.

As with books and webpages, articles also have an "about me" section, often called a resource box. This allows you to add a small biographical piece where you describe your appropriate skills and experience and offer opportunities for your audience to contact you. You can include URL links to your destination sites such as your blog or main website, as well as your online and offline contact details.

Depending on your article directory host, you will have a number of resource boxes in which you can create bespoke pieces that emphasise different elements of your background and skills, and different calls to action. This can be very useful if you're writing on different fields as you draw on relevant experience relating to each field. Use the opportunity to reinforce the sense of value and benefit you can offer your niche so they see the usefulness in connecting with you.

Connecting your social media platforms to your article profile page will help you promote your writing to your wider community. Each time you publish an article, a tweet is posted to out to your network so if your Twitter account is connected to your LinkedIn and Facebook accounts, this is an excellent opportunity to consolidate your identity as an article writer.

Business Blogging: Things You Should NEVER Do on Business Blogs

Business Blogging: Things You Should NEVER Do on Business Blogs

By Marcie Hill

Everyone is blogging about everything these days. Topics range from family to business with everything in between. And there is an audience for each and every topic. As cool and fun as blogging is, there are no written rules. This could be good or bad depending on the blog topic, blogger and audience. For business blogs, though, there are things that you should NEVER do. Continue to read to find out what they are.

1. Talk about clients

Sharing bad client experiences on your site is a bad for many reasons. But the two main reasons not to do it are 1) it's a VERY unprofessional act which will speak volumes to your character and 2) your clients may be reading. If you just feel the need to say things about clients, speak good things. Report how their businesses improved as a result of your products or services. You can even share how you grew professionally because of your relationship with the client. Do not risk ruining your relationship and future referrals because of words on your site. It's just not worth it.

2. Discuss personal topics

Keep personal topics off your blog unless the information helps to make a very good point. Be wise about what you share. People are over-sharing on social sites and your business blog is not the place to air personal laundry.

3. Be negative

Words create energy. People can feel energy through the words used on your blog. Try not to blog when you are not your best self.

4. Sell

Selling on your blog is a no-no. You can share how people can benefit from your products and services; you can even recommend your goods every now and then. Do not - under any circumstance - do anything that screams, "Hey, buy my product or service!"

5. Use profanity

Swearing is unprofessional. Period. No matter how good you are at what you do, you can drive people away with your choice of words.

6. Discuss race, religion, politics, gender, or sexual orientation

There is just no good reason to discuss these topics unless you are seeking waitresses for Hooters.

7. Stop posting without warning

If you need to stop blogging for any reason, be sure to let your audience know. To stop without advance notice will result in a loss of followers and potential business.

Above are things that you should NEVER do on business blogs. As you know, presentation is everything and your blog may be the first encounter people have with you and your business. If you have to question anything you want to write on your blog, leave it out. You will look better for it.

What are other things you should never do on a business blog?

Top 5 Ways Professional Associations Can Use Blogs

Top 5 Ways Professional Associations Can Use Blogs

By Marcie Hill

Businesses of all sizes and in all industries are using blogs to educate, promote and communicate. These tools can be especially beneficial for professional associations where education and communication with members is critical. Following are the top five ways these organizations can use blogs to improve the value of services they provide to customers, vendors and other stakeholders.

Communication

Professional associations can quickly share information, answer questions and respond to complaints and concerns. Any questions received could very well become topics on the site and get conversations going as people gladly share their opinions. Executives can use feedback from this information to add, remove or adjust programs and services provided to members.

Education

Organizations that educate tend to be favored more than those that don't. Thus, blogs can be used to conduct online trainings as well as update members on developments in the industry while educating the general public about how these changes impact them.

Media Creation and Coverage

Unless professional associations have great relationships with mainstream media outlets, it's a bit challenging to get events and stories covered. Blogs make it easy for organizations to create and share highlights from monthly meetings, networking events, and education sessions in any media format of choice. The world would get a chance to witness firsthand how these organizations serve their members.

Marketing and Promotion

In addition to marketing and promoting upcoming events and trainings, the association can use blogs to highlight accomplishments of the organization and its members; to sell books; and make other relevant industry related resources readily available.

Relationships

Relationships are crucial in this industry, therefore, consistent communications about the industry, the organization, employment and other opportunities will help maintain current members while attracting new ones. Information shared may even pique the interest of former members or people with little or no knowledge of the industry.

Above are the top five ways professional associations can use blogs. In addition to communicating with and educating members, they can be used for marketing and promotion as well as media creation. Most importantly, the relationships built from the aforementioned activities will ensure the continuous growth and sustainability of the organization.

3-Way Links: Link Building That Google Loves

By Adam C Cherrington

As an online marketer, you already know that Google rules the roost when it comes to getting traffic to your website. Your site must show up near the top of the results on Google when a user types a search term into the box if you hope to get visitors and shoppers to enter your web store. Since there are more than 8 billion websites on the Internet at last count, it is not that easy to be sure that the web crawlers that Google sends out will locate your site and boost it to the top of the list. One of the best ways to attract the attention of the Google-bots is to acquire a large number of one-way links that point to your site. So, what strategy should you use to gather those links?
Jonathan Leger is a marketing expert who has written several ebooks and developed a number of software products that were all designed to help marketers earn that crucial top-tier Google ranking. After extensive research and a lot of trial and error with his own sites, he has learned that there are three basis types of links that Google is looking for before it will bestow the honor of a good rank on your e-commerce business. In a nutshell, you need:
• Several different link texts. Google does not look kindly on hundreds and hundreds of links to your site that all have exactly the same text. In fact, you may actually be punished and put in the infamous Google "sandbox" if you have too many identical links. Jon Leger says his research shows that creating about 60% of your links with your top search term is good. He then recommends that you use a secondary keyword for about 30% of the links, and 10% for a third term. This method produces the kind of diversity of links that Google loves while keeping your main keywords in the forefront of your efforts.
• A gradual growth in links. The Google-gods will not be pleased if hundreds of new links to your site appear all at once. That is like a huge red flag that says, "These links are from spammy, poor quality link farms." There are some services and unscrupulous SEO experts out there that will do this kind of linking, and it is bad news for any business. Instead, a slow but steady growth in the number of links to your site is the ideal you should strive for.
• Links from many different geographic areas. Likewise, Google is not fond of links that all come from the same IP address, or even several different addresses that are too close together geographically. The best idea is to have incoming links from many different places all around the world.
Ok, so now that you know what Google wants, how do you as a marketer go about making sure Google is pleased? Jonathan Leger has created a product that can satisfy all of the criteria set forth by the search engine giant, and save you lots of time and effort in the process.
3 Way Links
When you sign up as a member of 3 Way Links, you will be joining a vast network of websites that are all looking for links the way you are. It is an easy process to join the program. All you have to do is add the domain you want to promote and your desired keywords into the system. Then, you upload a PHP file to your site from 3 Way Links, and make a link to that file from your home page. That's all you have to do. 3 Way Links then automatically creates links from other sites within the network that follow all the rules that Google sets out.
You will get links with several different texts, from many unique IP addresses, that build up gradually over the course of a few weeks. As an added bonus, none of the links will be simple reciprocal links that are usually ignored by web crawlers. Instead, they all involve three different sites where A links to B, and B links to C, while C links back to A. That way all the links are one-way and are smiled upon by Google. It is a terrific time saver for a busy web master, and a very effective strategy.
Cost
As a businessman, you are undoubtedly interested in the cost of such a valuable service. For $47 a month, you can put as many as 50 sites into the network and receive up to 250 links for each website. That's less than $1 per site per month. When you think of the potential for a return on your investment that is many times larger than your $47, the program sounds like a very good deal, indeed.
A computer geek as a child, Adam C. Cherrington grew up to discover he had a surprising talent for creative internet marketing. He's the creator of more than 100 websites, including Sandtray Therapy Institute, now in its third year online, and SiteGrinder. He currently mentors marketers to be full-time Internet Marketing Consultants, and helps them create a promotional presence that attracts the kind of clients who make them happiest.

Blogging Tips For The Topically Challenged

Blogging Tips For The Topically Challenged

By Russ Grimm

Why is blogging so important?

We're not going to spend a lot of time here, but I want to set up the primary importance for this article and why blogging is necessary for long-term survival.

The internet today is all about being social. We're bombarded with social media websites every time we get online.Social Media has fast become a necessary piece for any business and if it's not part of your business' repertoire you're either living in a cave or one of those people still using Windows 95 and a 20 megabyte hard drive. Old school... really old school.

People are inherently curious and for this reason social media sites are very popular today. They want to know something about you. Who you are, what do you look like, how do you think and can they trust you. A blog can fulfill all of those curiosities.

What to blog about?

Now that we agree blogging is important we need to know what it is we should blog about. This is by far the most important part of blogging. Get it wrong and you might as well go ahead and shut down your website. Get it right and the curious will keep coming back to your online business or blog for more. So let's look at three simple rules to apply when you start a blog or start a home business with a blog.

  1. Passion - Always write about your passion. If your passion is golfing, hiking, camping, fishing, knitting, affiliate marketing or cats and dogs; that's what you should write about. If you're not passionate about it you'll always be forcing yourself to write about and soon lose interest. Worse yet, your readers will figure out that you really aren't into it and eventually move on to another site.
  2. Expert - Sometimes your passion is driven by a desire to share. You become an expert on a particular subject and you feel a need to share that knowledge. Maybe you want others to avoid the hardships you went through. Perhaps you want to help people who are facing some of the same unanswered questions you had when you started out in the area that you are now an expert. If you are knowledgable about a product, service or perhaps a hobby, then you have something to share with others who are looking for information. When you're passionate or highly knowledgable about an area of interest you will find there is always something to write about.
  3. Consistent - Always write about the same things. The worst thing you can do to yourself and to your readers is not be consistent. If your blog is about camping then you should always write about camping or even something that might be indirectly relevant to camping. For example: you should write about camping gear, camping sites, why camping can be fun and spending time with friends and family. You can even write about fishing (indirectly relevant) and talk about the lake you fished and the types of fish you caught on your last camping trip. Always be consistent. There's no bigger mistake a blogger can make than to write about camping (or whatever your niche) one day and then politics or a current event news article the next. Your readers won't appreciate it because they wont know what to expect. Eventually, they'll move on.

Final thoughts

If you love what you do then you should write about it. If you're expert, share that knowledge with people who are searching for information.Whatever your heart decides just be consistent and blog about the same things and you will find there will never be a shortage topics to write about. Your readers will appreciate it, learn to trust you and you'll always have them coming back for more.

The World View of Blogging

The World View of Blogging

By Bill Ames

The world of blogging is spreading around the world and is having an impact everywhere. For those of us who like to sit in our home offices and work to create our own future in front of a computer screen, there is opportunity aplenty in a new cyber world created by limitless information transmitted in global broadband communications.

Blogs at the basic level are just another form of web site that now populates the web in the many millions. But the concept of blogging goes well beyond the traditional commerce driven website and instead responds to a very basic urge of individuals to express themselves. The attraction of blogging is that it offers the opportunity to create a sense of community amongst like minded or even disparate peoples. To create a feeling of community, there are many different features that allow blogging to grow such as showing photos, making a journal, expounding on political views and so forth. Underpinning these features is the hard benefit that with advertising, AdSense and so forth there is a way to create a revenue stream. All together, with these features and benefits, bloggers have produced a movement that is literally reshaping the world.

Prior to the creation of the World Wide Web, political scientists and others saw 'the real world' mostly in terms of nations, states, corporations and churches. Information technology is changing that view and today plays a very large role in the accelerating rate of change societal change. Perhaps the most famous single incident was in 1991 in Tiananmen Square in China in 1991 where the use of the fax machine by the student organizers was instrumental in generating the needed buzz. Their efforts were so successful that over 10,000 appeared on that Sunday afternoon in the square. And they did so under the noses of the Chinese Army.

Today technology again is creating societal change via the blogging movement and is expanding the scope of the people's involvement in world affairs. Blogs such as Drudge Report, Daily Kos, Red State, and others, all operated by a small band of information entrepreneurs, present facts, semi-facts, opinions and just plain information to millions around the globe at virtually no cost to the recipients and remarkably little expense to the bloggers. As broadband and blogging software and services continue to improve, the implications of the blogging movement are the subject of many magazine articles and books. We live in a world where the rate of speed in the introduction of new technologies is increasing all the time, so it hard to predict just where the future lies but it is easy to see that the web and blogging is a good place to invest one's creative energy.

If the thought of being active on the web appeals to you, why is blogging for you? Simply because it is very rare when an opportunity arises that requires little start up cost and, in most cases, virtually no cost of goods sold with a global market at your finger tips. Best of all, blogging allows us as individuals to rely on what we have in great supply - the grey matter of our brains - and with that we can create, from seemingly out of nowhere, ideas for fun and/or profit that may never have occurred to corporate America.

And like those Chinese students, if you are really lucky, as you sit at your keyboard in your home office, you may just end up helping to change the world.

One doesn’t need to be an internet savvy, with Graphic Design and Programming skills, to start a blog. A number of sites and information are available online to help one take part in this internet money making trend. Blogger and Wordpress are just some of the user friendly blog sites that come with handy blog templates; all the newbie blogger needs to do is to start typing away. To earn money, a blog should be reachable by search engines. The said two sites are one of the most easily searchable sites by Google, and providing a quality filled content will definitely land one’s site in the top rankings. A blog comes with a name, and thinking of a specific blog name can make or break one’s blogging success. It would be best to consider a name based on how the internet responds to searches. A blog owner’s primary goal is to be easily visible once a potential visitor searches for a specific topic. The best way to gauge the strength of a site’s name is by checking it with the Google keyword tool. Seeing the other keywords people use to seek information about the same topic is a good clue in creating an effective blog name. Knowing how to start a blog with a name powerful enough to capture searches is a wise move.

A blog with a good content shows useful information and insights related to the topic. In choosing the right topic to blog about, the main criteria should be the writer’s interest and inclination. A good blog needs continuous supply of fresh articles and only those maintained by passionate writers who can easily write about their interests will meet this important requirement. Learning how to start a blog doesn’t stop at its creation. A profitable site is continuously evolving. It is actively developed in terms of ideas and designs and a sincere intention to distribute the said piece of information to a large audience. Blogger or WordPress: Which One Will Work Better For You?

Blogger or WordPress: Which One Will Work Better For You?

By Erin P Smith

Blogging is used in a number of different ways. It is so popular that it has become perhaps the best way to express yourself in any forum. There are blogs for almost every topic you can think of! Just this morning I found a blog about messed up cakes... it was hilarious!

Many bloggers also set up their sites with the intention of earning a living with it, either by directly selling products or selling advertising and using AdSense.

When deciding on Blogger or WordPress, the first thing you must decide is what you're using your blog for. For me this is the deciding factor when deciding which platform to use.

Blogger or WordPress: The Comparison

First of all, I'm referring to WordPress.org, where you buy the hosting and install the program itself. That right there is one of the problems with using WordPress because it is a little more technical to set up and maintain than a Blogger site. However, there are thousands of tutorials all over the web that can show you how to deal with problems as they arise. And, after a while, you'll have a thorough understanding of how to use it.

With Blogger, it's much more plug-n-play. You fill out a little info about yourself, and you can start posting. Almost that fast too!

However, there are two main important debates with the Blogger or WordPress issue. The first is the domain name. With WordPress, you can purchase your own domain, and it can be whatever you want. With blogger, your domain will have the word "blogspot" as in yourdomain.blogspot.com.

The second issue is that you don't own your Blogger site. If for someone reason you break some silly rule, or for whatever arbitrary reason Google comes up with, you could have your blog taken down.

With WordPress, you host it on a 3rd party site and you own the domain. Essentially, the site is yours and cannot be taken down.

I have also noticed that WordPress tends to rank better on Google. I've had dozens of posts show up on the front page of Google, when Blogger sites are nowhere to be seen.

Blogger Or WordPress: When To Use Each

I personally believe that Blogger is fantastic for two things. One, anyone who just simply wants to share their thoughts with the world completely for fun should absolutely use Blogger. It's probably not worth the hassle to set up a WordPress site in this case. Also, if you're just barely, barely, barely starting a business and don't have any time or money to work with WordPress, you can use it for a little while.

However, when using your blog for making an income, I highly suggest using WordPress. The domain name looks much more professional and you don't want your blog shut down for some dumb reason when it's making you good money.

And, once you've learned the basics of setting up your site, then you can charge to set up other WordPress sites! This is a great way to earn some fast, easy money.

As you can probably tell, this Blogger or WordPress debate for me is easy. The hands-down winner is WordPress. Even though it costs a little money, it's really only like 8 bucks a month. It can be a little work, but it's not hard to find sources on the internet to help you.

Learn How to Create a Blog With WordPress in 7 Easy Steps

Learn How to Create a Blog With WordPress in 7 Easy Steps

By Peter Burke

OK, great, you have now decided to set up a WordPress Blog. Now you need to know how to create a blog.

I will assume for the purposes of this article that you have chosen to download your WordPress platform from WordPress.org, that you have a hosting account so as you can self host your blog, that you are going to host your blog on its own domain .i.e. mydomainblog.com and that you know the 'basics' of using an FTP client like FileZilla.

Step #1

Go to WordPress.org and download the latest version of WordPress. This will be a Zip file. Extract the contents. You will end up with a sub folder i.e.'WordPress v2.7'

Step #2

Open up your FTP client and go to public_html or httpdocs. Open up these public folders - this is where you want to place the WordPress files/folders.

Step #3

Open up the unzipped folder and you will see over 25 (at present 27) files and folders. Upload the in the public directory. This will take at least 5 minutes so take a tea or coffee break.

Step #4

OK, glad you've had a nice break - lets get on to preparing the 'mechanics' of the database.

You will need to set up a MySQL database and then change a file -Ok here goes.

Step #5

Go into your control panel for your domain.

Select the MySql icon. You will see 3 main areas. Here you will set up a database name, User Name, Link the database to user (as well as set privileges) and you should have the last box say 'localhost' - leave that alone as 99% of setups don't require you to change this.

Now create your database name this will look like xxxx_database name. After you press the create tab you then press go back which takes you back to the database creation page.

Now create the database user name it will look like xxxx_database user name and set a password. Press create and the Go back tabs

Now you need to 'marry' the database name and user. Match the database name and user and by clicking add user to the database - for the moment make sure that the 'all privileges box is checked.

Where it says 'access hosts' if this has localhost beneath just leave the box blank.

Press the 'go back' tab now and you will have created your database.

Step #6

Open up a text editor or Dreamweaver or NVU (free HTML editor)

Access the wp-congig-sample.php file and upload it into your editor. In particular you will see the following information.

define('DB_NAME', 'WordPress'); // The name of the database

define('DB_USER', 'username'); // Your MySQL username

define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password'); // ...and password

define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // 99% chance you won't need to change this value

You need to change the default information in the wp-config to include your database information.

Make sure you do not remove the single quotes.

define('DB_NAME', 'WordPress'); // The name of the database

You will need to change the "WordPress" to the actual name of your database that created when you set up the database i.e. define('DB_NAME', 'nicheblog');

define('DB_USER', 'username'); // Your MySQL username

again change the 'username' to the username you created when you set up the database.

define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password'); // ...and password

This is the 'password' you created when you set up the database.

define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // chance you won't need to change.

Leave everything else alone and save this file as wp-config.php

You now go to your FTP client and upload the amended wp-config.php file

Step #7

You then go to and type in your domain on your browser.

When you first go to install you should be presented with an 'auto install feature' which will ask you for the title of the blog and your email address.

Once you have followed the instructions, your blog will be created automatically for you. Make sure to save the user name and password provided.

That's it for the basic WordPress installation!!!

You are ready to log in! You will see the default WordPress theme in the front end of your website. You can change the look and feel of the website by changing the default theme to custom WordPress theme.

This should work 99% of the time providing you have followed the steps. Should the self install not complete successfully it is often because the blog creator has either not properly set up the databse and/or not changed the wp-config-sample.php files properly.

At the end of a successful installation for 'security' purposes you should finally go back and delete the 'redundant' wp-config-sample.php file. Now you know how to create a blog. It wasn't that hard was it?

That's it - job finished!!

How to Get More People Interested in Your Blog

How to Get More People Interested in Your Blog

By Scott Hugo Jr

This article will explain how to get more people interested in your blog and increase your online presence.

In order to get more people to read and follow your blog, first it needs to be interesting. Your web blog needs to attract attention. It needs to stand out from the crowd, and be unique. You should be creating headlines that grab your visitors attention and makes them want to read what you are posting. Allow them to participate by posting comments.

You need to pick a topic and generally stick to it. This is called operating within a "niche". A niche is a highly focused targeted subject matter. When you do this it will enable you to concentrate your efforts and achieve maximum results. And this will attract the attention of people that have a keen interested in the subject that you are blogging about.

Post to your blog often. It isn't an easy task to get people to your blog, and the ones you do get to visit you'll want to keep. People are not going to return to your blog if you're not actively involved with it. They will move on and become someone else's follower. Make sure to post at least 2 or 3 times per week with a minimum of 400 words per post.

Register a unique domain name for your blog. If you want your blog to be respected, then do yourself a favor and register your own domain name. It is more professional, and will help you stand out. It is easier for someone to remember a top level domain name than a sub-domain. Many blogging platforms allow you to use a free sub domain. Whether your blogging as a hobby about something you love or you're looking for an opportunity to cash in on the billions of dollars being made online, eventually your blog can earn you a nice income.

How to get more people interested in your blog

  • Create attention grabbing headlines
  • Operate within a niche
  • Post often
  • Register your own domain name
  • Add photos
  • Use a template
  • Submit your blog to online directories
  • Participate in forums, and include a link to your blog (don't spam)

These are all things you can do in your quest to learn how to get more people interested in your blog. If you implement these techniques you should see increased readership.

One of the main areas you need to focus on to get more people interested in your blog is generating traffic to it. People need to be able to find your blog in the first place. Your blog needs to be search engine friendly.

When you create a post first you need to do keyword research to figure out what people are typing into the search engines to find the content you're publishing. You want to pick a title for your post that gets at least 500 searches per month. Then you need to analyze the competition. Type your article title "in quotes" into Google and see how many results are returned. If there are more than 50,000 results then you need to find a new title for your blog post.

Thank you for reading my article about how to get more people interested in your blog. There is a lot to know about getting traffic to your blog and you should educate yourself as much as possible about search engine optimization.

Promote Your Blog by Stirring Up Action in the Comments Area

Promote Your Blog by Stirring Up Action in the Comments Area

By Richard Goutal

People are attracted to action. They slow down to look at an accident. They are drawn to a crowd. They go out of their way to determine the cause of a loud noise.

So what attracts people to your blog site? Action does! Is there a crowd, or even a small group, "buzzing" around your latest blog post? Or does the post show "zero comments." So one way to promote your site is to ensure that there are a good number of comments to your posts, a sure sign of action!

Promote Your Site With Blog Comments

There are several things you can do to increase the number of comments on your blog. First, you must write a post that is going to generate a conversation. On a practical side, you need to create an environment that encourages people to add comments. And most importantly you need to prime the pump with comments from motivated friends. Let's look at these ideas a bit more.

If you are sitting with a group of friends at a restaurant and you remark, "The sky is blue," it is not likely to generate much of a sustained conversation. In the same way, a blog post with a blah premise will not generate much interest. A lot of posts are like that; just... boring. Same old rehashed content. What kind of content captivates attention? Posts that explain how to do something that the reader needs to do. So you must know your readers. Posts that express an opinion about a topic dear to the heart of your readers. So you must know your readers. Posts that hit on the emotions of the reader - inspires, saddens, or makes them laugh. So you must know your readers!

Once a reader is hooked by your topic and the way you write about it, you must make it easy for them to comment. Ending the post with a question, a controversial statement, or a challenge followed by a blatant request - "I'd like to hear your comments; please add them below." This last part is an example of what is commonly known as a "call to action."

At the very moment the reader is considering the possibility of adding a comment, it is essential that the "comments" area of your post be easy to see. There are still readers who are new to the blogging format (true!) and it is not sufficient to have a small, hard to find link to a comments area. Such a link needs to stand out; so make sure that particular link is uncluttered, for example with a string of "tags."

Finally, you need to prime the pump. No matter how interesting your content, people will tend to discount if it appears that everyone else has as well. Let's put it this way, people find it easier to join a conversation than to start one. So your site needs to have a few comments there to create a safe place for conversation-joiners.

Collaborative Groups Help Promote Your Site

How do you do this? You make a deal with a group of other people: "I'll comment on your blog if you'll comment on mine." That is oversimplifying a bit, but such groups are commonly known as syndication groups, blogging alliances, or tribes. Such groups are a great example of how working with others can speed up your progress. Such a collaborative group is extremely effective when done right.

There are a number of such collaborative groups that already exist that you can join, if just for the purpose of learning how such groups work. After learning the ropes of one or more typical tribes, you can start your own group. The fact remains, however, that beginning blogs can really benefit from some artificial buzz in the same way that an old fashioned water pump can benefit from a little water dumped into the top.

Site promotion can involve many strategies, but one that really helps is to stir up a little action with comments on every post.

I invite you to learn more about how to work with others to build your online business. It is amazing what entrepreneurs can accomplish when they collaborate with one another.
