Different Types of Farm And Agricultural Machinery

Different Types of Farm And Agricultural Machinery

By Lloyd Pinto

As the population of the country grows the demand for food and organic products also increases. The farmers and farm land owners have to work hard to produce more products so that they meet the increased demands. In recent times technology has led the way and transformed the way agricultural activities are performed. There are different types of farm and agricultural machines which can now be used by farmers. Although they are expensive, they can really help a lot in improving efficiencies and increasing produce. Some of the different types of machines are described below.

Tractor

This is the most commonly used equipment in the farm. A tractor pulls heavy objects and supplies needed in the production. It has two large wheels at the back and two small wheels in front. Today tractors are more modernized. They have comfortable seats, durable wheels and body and temperature control.

Cultivator

Before planting, the soil should be cultivated by stirring and pulverizing. This is to aerate the soil. Like the tractor, this machine also has two big wheels at the back and two small wheels in front. It also has shanks or teeth which will cultivate the soil once the machine is operational.

Broadcast seeder

It is a machine that is attached to the tractor so that the seed will be distributed all over the land. The seeds are located in a hopper which has multiple blades inside. Rotating disks are also located so that you can spread the seeds in different patterns.

Harvester

When the plants are already ready to be harvested, a harvester is used. All kinds of grains can be collected by a harvester. It performs three different roles. It can chop the plants, remove the finished product and clean the debris from the product.

Sprayer

Plants are prone to pest infestation. You need to protect them by regularly applying pesticides. You can only do this when you have a sprayer. It facilitates the work especially if your land is wide. You can also use the self- propelled row-crop sprayer which has four wheels. The sprayer is usually found at the back of this equipment.

With these different types of farm and agricultural machinery, farmers have been able to produce a higher quantity of products at a lesser cost. They have proved to be a boon to the farmers. In some locations, farmers may also be able to secure bank loans to purchase such equipment.

Check out this website to know more about new agricultural equipment and the latest developments in farm and agricultural machinery.

What Are Heirloom Vegetable Seeds and How To Use Them?

What Are Heirloom Vegetable Seeds and How To Use Them?

By James K Blake

So, you are watching heirloom carrots, tomatoes and other vegetables of all types spring out and wondering what they are? Do you know, when you purchase heirloom vegetable seeds, you are doing a favor to your environment? To know how, first we must go back to knowing more about what heirloom plants are.

What is an heirloom plant?

You see, the term is used mostly to plants which have not been genetically modified in any way, but has adapted to whatever climate it was planted in. This makes them free from genetically modifying items, and mostly they are not cultured on a large, industrial scale. It has been noted that these vegetables are actually tastier and earthier in flavors, and currently they are all the rage in the food trend zone, where they have taken over a major part of the culinary world.

So, why are heirloom vegetables popular? Chefs nowadays swear by the taste and texture of heirloom vegetables, claiming that they have a lot more flavor than their blander, genetically modified cousins, and thus they are quite the rage with gardeners and planters. So, if you are interested in purchasing heirloom vegetable seeds for better quality of food as well as for farming purposes, here are a few reasons why you should definitely go for them.

How to use heirloom seeds?

First of all, though the heirloom vegetable seeds are not as cheap as the genetically modified ones, they come with thorough instructions with them, so that the user can quickly follow them and start a vegetable patch within a few hours. Generally, quality products often come with details about the way the seeds should be planted and the kind of soil suitable. A lot of these seeds come with their own pail too, filled with the kind of soil that would be most suited to the seeds to grow. With firm instructions about the temperature which would be ideal for the seeds to germinate, it would not be very difficult to grow a plant. You should also check about the kind of fertilizer that would be best suited to the plant, the ones you should generally and specifically avoid, and the basic care of the plants once they are germinated.

Things to Note

Growing your own plants can be a very satisfying experience, and at the same time, it gives you something at the end of the day - a physical proof of your achievement. But, while purchasing heirloom vegetable seeds, you must keep in mind a few details. First of all, check the shelf life of the seeds. You must make sure that the seeds do not have an expiry date in the next 12 months at least. The good news is, a lot of these seeds are really long-lasting, and stays all right well beyond their expiry date, so you will not have to worry about them rotting off in your cellar. The other thing you must check is the lack of genetically modified items. It is pertinent for you to buy a brand which does not modify them at all, and instead, the vegetables give you a natural taste and add to your health benefit as well.

You should also look for seeds which are not difficult to grow. Imagine the frustration of anyone who tries to grow something too demanding or tricky. It is all they can do not to cry. So, make it a point to plant easy-to-grow ones which would make you feel happy, but not at the cost of your pain.

Effects of Global Warming on Agriculture and Food Supply

Effects of Global Warming on Agriculture and Food Supply

By Christophe Catesson

For a long time it has been believed that the effects of global warming on agriculture and food supply is going to be a positive one. This is because the rising level of carbon-dioxide resulted for global warming will help the greeneries for photosynthesis.

Thus there will be a rise of agricultural production and food supply. The theorem received a boost after the evidence of a sharp rise of barley production as one of the effects of global warming in Iceland which was quite impossible even few years ago.

But more recent experiments and researches have revealed that the effects of global warming on agriculture and food supply are not that good after all. AN UNEP 2001 report on the global warming has predicted that USA is going to have more droughts, floods, landslides and storms.

Winter will gradually be shortened and sobered down, while summer will rise in expansion and severity. Along with this heavy rain, big storm, heavy snowfall, high sea level, increasing coastal erosion and other problems will occur.

Though as one of the effects of global warming, the overall food supply and production level is supposed to rise in USA, but the Great Plains will suffer with more droughts resulting for global warming.

Even now many effects of global warming on agriculture and food supply have been perceived. The popular maple syrup production of North east USA has diminished by 10%, moving its production zone to farther north for shorter and warmer winter.

On the other hand as one of the effects of global warming the south west USA is suffering from a water shortage which will increase in coming days. The zone has become dry for any standard agricultural production with an apprehension of resettling Dust Bowl of 1930s’ by the year 2030 for global warming.

Following a report of IPCC on the global warming, California’s snow covered Sierra Mountains can reduce in near future by up to 60-90%. This will create dire water shortage in summer, making the Central Valley area unsuitable for agricultural production for global warming. The State University of Colorado has declared that the area is going to be less productive due to effects of global warming on agriculture and food supply.

As the effects of global warming, the food supply production in Florida is going to suffer a lot due to frequent and large scale floods. Also one of the most profitable agricultural products of USA – corn will suffer a bad condition due to dry and hot atmosphere for global warming.

As another example of the effects of global warming on agriculture and food supply - with the rise of temperature by 3 to 11 degrees in this century, the production rate of the main crops – the rice, corn, wheat, barley, soybeans and sorghum – will be cut down by 3-5% for each point rise of temperature for global warming.

However with all these effects of global warming on agriculture and food supply, new attempts have been made to adjust the agricultural and food production method according to the changing atmosphere. So to fight the effects of global warming, the researchers have established new methods of production with continuous revision of models. But still the best possible process to reduce the effects of global warming on agriculture and food supply is to be established.

Advantages of Using Fertilizers

Advantages of Using Fertilizers

By Amrit Pal

We would have all heard about fertilizers and would know what their application is. Many of us would have probably used a fertilizer in our garden before. So why are fertilizers so essential in farming or plant growth? Before we discuss their importance or how beneficial they are, let's first learn what fertilizers are. They are substances that are made up of chemical compounds that are known to improve the growth of plants. Some soil may be lacking a certain nutrient thus using fertilizers is a way to add those missing nutrients to the soil for healthy growth of the plant. They also contain chemicals that can tolerate harsh weathers, develop a strong immune system to resist attacks by insects and pests.

In Farming

Fertilizers used in farming offer many advantages to farmers. With the growing demands of the expanding population of the world, farmers have to ensure that they can produce quality crops to stay competitive in their business. However, managing big farms is totally different from managing a small garden. There are many factors that affect the quality of the crops that farmers produce. Farmer would likely farm crops at the same place over and over again, it would drain the nutrients of the soil thus resulting in crops of bad quality. Using fertilizers can be a solution for the farmer to restore the nutrients in the soil. This way, the farmer would not have to keep relocating to continue farming and also producing quality crops.

Another advantage that crops can offer farmers is that they increase the output of their produce by using fertilizers. With fertilizers applied to the soil, it would allow for more crops to grow thus increasing output. If you were to compare it to an area where no fertilizers have been used, that area would have a lower output due to the lack of nutrients and inability to fight pests.

In Gardens

If you are interested in maintaining a colourful and healthy garden in your backyard, fertilizers would be of great help. They can help improve the health of plants by providing them with essential nutrients to grow. With these nutrients, the plants would be more 'green' thus giving your garden a more vibrant colour. Imagine if the plants in your garden did not receive the essential nutrients, they would probably turn brown and die after sometime, giving your garden an unsightly look. Also, potted plants tend to lose their nutrients quickly thus constantly applying fertilizers would give your plants a healthy life. However, remember not to apply too many fertilizers as it would harm the health of your plants. Use specific fertilizers which are meant for the plants that you are gardening as it would ensure that you get optimum results.

Fertilizers, if used properly can be of great help to plants and provide farmers and gardeners with the desired results. However, if fertilizers that are not meant for a specific crop are used on that crop, it could harm it; therefore one should be careful when using fertilizers. Also, applying too much fertilizer can harm the health of the crop.

Increase Your Harvests Multi-Fold With Non-Hybrid Seeds

Increase Your Harvests Multi-Fold With Non-Hybrid Seeds

By James K Blake

Agriculture could be said to be the backbone of earth. Almost everything we eat is in one way or another related to agriculture. Agricultural output is highly influenced by the prevailing weather and the types of seeds planted. Different crops do well in different weather conditions as they are well adapted to certain environment. In the recent past, there has been a massive shift to hybrid seeds, which have been claimed to do well than the non-hybrid seeds. Hybrid seeds are seeds produced through cross-pollination, collected and replanted. Collection and replanting can give you low yield. Even if they grow, these seeds cannot give you a variety they will give a similar breed like you had in the previous season.

If you want high yields, no matter what season the earth is in, you can rely on non-hybrid seeds. These are seeds that are collected from mature plants that are open pollinated. This open pollination ensures that you get a variety of yields from the plants. By being from mature plants, which have been specially collected and packed, the seeds are guaranteed to grow when you plant them and produce yields. This is as compared to hybrid seeds that face the risk of being sterile thus not giving yields. The seeds are packed properly to ensure that they can stay for long without going bad or otherwise being contaminated by chemicals that could hinder germination.

Information is power. Unfortunately, many farmers, especially those in third world countries, still rely on the hybrid seeds. This is due to lack of information on the shortcomings of these seeds. Many of these farmers plant the cross-pollinated seeds that they gather from the previous harvest; after the harvest, these seeds are replanted in the next season. This goes on and on. These seeds reach a point where they become sterile and unproductive. Some refuse to germinate while others germinate and grow normally but do not give fruits or give low yields. The other problem, apart from lack of information, has been inaccessibility to organic seeds. Some farmers could be having the information but were unable to access these seeds. Although these have been major problems, they are being addressed by the adoption of the internet in those countries. Farmers are now able to get the plain truth about the problems of hybrid seeds. Accessibility has also been improved since the farmers can buy these quality seeds online.

With the non-hybrid seeds, you can say goodbye to food shortage as a household and the country at large because you are guaranteed to have bumper harvests. When you have food security, you are able to take care of other important things. The money that could have been used to purchase food, due to food shortage, can now be channeled to other development activities of the household. The household can go a step ahead and involve itself in agribusiness by growing crops as well as fruits and sell them to make a profit. Agribusiness is an attractive source of income that people need to look into.

You can buy organic, non hybrid seeds online in a very convenient way. Check out the seed shop to get non hybrid seeds for your next bumper harvest.

Non Hybrid Seeds Are Hygienic and Always Good for Health

Non Hybrid Seeds Are Hygienic and Always Good for Health

By Prachetas Nair

Nowadays food has become a very costly thing to have. People are not interested to cultivate food products due to the due to non-availability of good seeds. This has led to a very alarming situation in which the availability of food is very much less than what is required. This has led to many researches in the field of agriculture. The researches have resulted in seeds developed in the laboratory which can yield good crops. These laboratories developed seeds have the capacity to deliver more output by which these seeds became popular. But unfortunately many different kinds of health problems have been resulted from the consumption of the food products grown using these seeds.

These seeds also require plenty of fertilizer to withstand the attack of many different kinds of pests. By using the pesticides during the growth of these seeds resulted in contaminated food products. This in-turn resulted in many different kinds of health problems. The taste of the food products cultivated using these seeds also are not good and the vitamins and proteins contained in this is less when compared to the non hybrid seeds. The only attraction of the laboratory produced seeds is that it can give more yields, but the quality of the food product is much less and also contains traces of pesticides which is dangerous to life.

On the other hand non hybrid seeds can be cultivated without using any kind of pesticides. These non hybrid seeds have the capacity to withstand any kind of pest infection. The taste of the food grown using these non hybrid seeds are very good and it contains plenty of natural vitamins and proteins and other required healthy minerals which can be good for health. These seeds easily get accustomed to the nature and then it develops its own immunity towards the pests. This in-turn makes the products cultivated using these seed more natural and good for health.

The information available regarding the laboratory developed seeds and its demerits have led to an up-rise in the demand of non hybrid seeds and organically grown food products. People are now becoming more and more aware of the benefits of the natural products and they have started using products which contain natural ingredients. The organically grown food products are in of great demands due to the benefits they can give and the rich availability of vitamins and proteins and other natural minerals in abundance.

Nowadays people are interested to cultivate using non hybrid seeds due to the demand it has in the market. Health conscious people have started using these food products which are grown using non hybrid seeds without using any pesticide but organic fertilizers. The products obtained from these are good in taste and the seeds of these food products can be used for further cultivation. This helps the farmers to reduce their cost for obtaining the non hybrid seeds. On the other hand the laboratory developed seeds do not have seeds in itself by which the farmer has to purchase seeds for every crop.

Conclusion

It is highly recommended to use non hybrid seeds to grow food products in a natural way.

These seeds can be purchased from non hybrid seeds for sale counters
