The plastic cat food dishes also get slime on the sides and that can caus serious problems for your cat and for you too.

Our cats like to play with any water dish or cat food dish and fling them across the floor causing a lot of mess and water. There for plastic bowls aren't recommended since they are easier to fling and knock over and can really caus a big mess!

WARNING: Sometimes, a very cheap plastic cat food dish might come with a very sharp edge that could perhaps cut your cats lips or skin. Therefor check any plastic cat food dishes before buying any cat food dish or bowl.

Stainless Steel Cat Food Bowls:

Stainless steel bowls are solled almost everywhere. Stainless steal cat food bowls are dishwasher safe and sturdy. However there are some minuses to consider before buying any stainless steal cat food dish....

Some people think that stainless steel cat food bowls are not a good choice either since they give the cat food a bad metallic taste. Although I never had a bad experience with steal cat food dishes, (since I have never bought a stainless steal cat food dish for my cats) I can imagine that it probably would have the same affect as our steal pott that made us sick!

However since i personly have not tried it, you could give it a go if you wanted to!

3 Cat Food Bowl Tips:

1. Whatever type of dishes you purchase, make sure they are washed out and refilled every day with clean fresh water.

2. Use a wet sponge to rub the sides and corners of the cat food dish to make sure that no bacterias and slime are growing there.

3. TIP: When you choose any cat food dishes for your cat, buy something that is sturdy, dishwasher safe and made of metal or ceramic that wont brake if your cat/s knock it over and wont make the cats food taste bad!

Bird owners should move the cage to a draft free location, away from windows and doors. Moving your bird's cage to a central location in the home can make a big difference in keeping deadly drafts and cold air away from sensitive birds. Shrink-wrap insulation kits can be used on windows and unused doorways in winter to keep cold air out and warm air in. Increasing the humidity indoors in winter is also good for birds, eliminating dryness and excess dander.

Remember that birds are sensitive to smoke and fumes that can come from wood, gas or kerosene heaters. Some electric heaters are treated with a non-stick coating, which can create fumes that are deadly to birds. Some radiator-style electric heaters can be effective, but be sure to check on possibly harmful coatings.

Bird owners should definitely have a cage cover on hand. Covering the cage at night will help keep birds cozy. Some birds enjoy snugglies and snoozies to help keep them warm at night. Heat lamps can be used, and infrared bulbs will create a glow that does not interfere with the bird's sleep cycle. It's important to choose only a bird-safe heat lamp recommended for avian use. Pay attention to the bulbs used in the heat lamp - any bulbs coated with polytetrafluoroethylene can emit toxic fumes when overheated. There are also ceramic heating elements that can be used for birds - from those that clamp onto the cage to heat panels that are placed around the cage. These are specifically designed for animal and avian use. Infrared heat panels that attach to the cage are also an energy-efficient way to keep your bird cozy this winter.

In addition to keeping your bird warm, you'll want to ensure that heating your home doesn't result in a lack of humidity. If so, there are a few simple things you can do to provide the proper conditions for your bird. Regular baths, showers or light misting should be continued throughout the winter months. You can also increase humidity in the home by using a vaporizer or humidifier designed for birds. Other options include placing shallow pans of water on radiators or in the oven when you're pre-heating it, or simply leaving the bathroom door open when you shower to allow the steam into the house.

Feeding your bird a healthy, vitamin-rich diet throughout the year will help boost its immune system and stay healthier despite changes in temperature. Bird owners should make sure the winter diet includes plenty of fruits and vegetables to maintain optimal health.

Of course, keeping a watchful eye on pet birds throughout the winter is important. As you make changes to your bird's environment, be on the lookout for signs of overheating, such as panting, extended neck or holding the wings away from the body. Also keep an eye out for signs of any health problems - exposure to cold temperatures can lower the bird's immunity and result in illness. Although we might think pet visitation could cause harm to their owners while they are in the hospital, there actually is a lack of infections or other adverse results from the visits. It is thought that since the pet owners were already living with their pets, they have already been exposed to the organisms the pet might be carrying. Some researchers have even stated they have found that blood pressure is decreased when in the presence of a pet, as noted by Friedman and colleagues (2007), Antrhozoos, 20, 51-63. Keeping vaccinations current for cats is very important. Other health problems can occur, too. Some examples of health problems for cats would include hairballs, parasites, vomiting, diarrhea, urinary tract infection, and feline leukemia. As you can see, some of these can be easily prevented while others are much more serious. For example, hairballs occur from your cat's constant grooming. This can be prevented by bathing and brushing your cat regularly. Vomiting and diarrhea can be prevented by carefully monitoring what your cat eats and providing only the best nutrition. Sometimes you veterinarian will recommend supplements. I also think it is not good to give your cat milk because it is not easily digestible and can cause diarrhea. Urinary tract infection and feline leukemia are serious disorders that require the veterinarian to intervene with medication. Many times, feline leukemia is fatal.

Like cats, dogs should be kept current on all vaccinations. But there are other health concerns for dogs, too. Parasites can be problematic. This has to be carefully monitored and treated. Other problems for dogs involve the bones. Panosteitis is an inflammatory disease of the bones. It affects younger dogs. It can cause a sudden symptom of lameness. The young dog will suddenly start to limp. This condition occurs particularly in German Shepherds, but all breeds are susceptible to it. Dogs can develop other conditions, such as cancer, constipation, and ear mites. It's always important to ensure your dog has regular checkups.

I personally think it is best to keep pets inside and not let them outside unsupervised. There is much less chance for an animal to get ill or hurt if it is kept inside. While outside, your dog or cat could come into contact with another animal that has some sort of disease. Your pet could become infected. I am always afraid my dog or cat will get hurt being outside with all the traffic that is in the neighborhood. I think it is a good idea is to take your pet for a walk. Like us, pets need exercise. This can provide an opportunity for both of you to get out.

To summarize, owning a pet it a big responsibility. You have to ensure your pet's health. As I discussed, this involves many factors. But if you do your part and keep your dog or cat healthy, she will provide you with many years of love and affection. You will not regret taking care of your pet.
