There are hundreds of suggestions that you come across on the internet but below i have listed a few tips for you and your small business. We think they might be the most useful for 90% of small business owners.

1. What is the goal of your website? How are you going to drive your business? Exactly what will you do? Start with one goal for example increasing the number of phone calls. It is important to set goals and to measure your goals with an organised system.

2. Evaluate the content on your website. Content is king! What does your website say? Is it inviting and just what the customer is looking for, is it relevant? Is it unique and useful? When was the last time you added new content? Does it match your business goals? Re-evaluate your content on your website and ask yourself these questions. Make changes quickly if you need too.

3. Look at the very top browser window and what do you see? Does it describe the page you are looking at? Is the title tag complete? Does it include the keywords that are in your content?

4. Analytics provide useful data from website visits to how long people stayed on your website for. Sign up to Google analytics. Its free and a must for your website. Make sure you keep track of all the conversions and leads generated by your website.

5. Put your websites into the free local business directories. Thomson local, Yell, Yahoo local, yellow pages, uk business directory and more. Google search the top free directories for your country and sign up to these. Enter you details between 10-20 directories. Make sure the directories are of good quality. Poor quality websites wont do your links very good. These should help boost your business too.

6. Check out your competition. What are they offering? What is their unique selling point (USP)? Visit their website. Look into to keywords relate to their business. Find out what others are doing on their website and that are leading to conversions. It is a great way to get ideas and take stock of your own company's online marketing efforts.

7. Start blogging. Every business has something to gain by blogging and nothing to loose. The list of benefits if long but quick ones to mention are link building, organic search results in search engines.

8. Post online video. Online video is becoming very popular and the future. There are low budget options while still providing concrete benefits. Start with YouTube.
