By Paul A Morales

Acne Conglobata is an inflammatory disease that may be manifested with blackheads, pimples, pus, scabs, and blood clots. This may last for months and even years if not treated promptly. Generally, people who are between 18 and 30 begin to show signs and symptoms of acne conglobata but at the early stage, it is really hard to make an accurate diagnosis since it may appear to be just an ordinary blackhead or pimple.

Causes of Acne Conglobata

To be effective in treating acne conglobata, it is very important to identify the cause. This will help to treat conglobata at the causative level rather than just treating the effects. The following are some of the causes of acne conglobata.

Hormonal imbalance - testosterone is one of the identified causes of this disease, thus it affects more men than women. Increased level in testosterone can also increase oil production of the skin. Oil may harden and clog the pores. This will trigger the pathological process of the disease.

Anabolic steroids - people who are using steroids to develop their muscles may develop this disease because it can also increase testosterone level.

Medication - some drugs are identified to cause conglomata.

Other disease processes - diseases that can affect hormones or the skin can trigger the acne.

Knowing these causes may help a person to avoid them and make better decision on how to prevent acne conglomata.

Treatment and Management

The length of treatment and how it is done may differ from one person to another. As this might be the case, the following are some of the most common course of treatment.

Medical intervention - isotretinoin is the most common medication used to treat acne. Because it is successful in treating ordinary pimples, it is also deemed to be an effective drug for acne conglomata. Prednisone as an anti-inflammatory drug is also employed together with dapsone, a drug for leprosy.

Antibiotics - the acne is a direct insult to the first line of the body's defense from infection. To prevent infection from happening, tetracycline and erythromycin is prescribed.

Injection - when nodules develop, triamcinolone can be injected.

Laser therapy - most clinics may have this technology that can help lessening the size of the acne with minimum level of scarring.

Surgery - if aggressive medical treatment and other therapies are not successful, surgery is the last option. Surgery can be done to manually remove the nodule and drain the abscesses.

While most treatment and management may focus on the physical welfare of the patient, it is also important to render emotional support. Acne conglomata can really be very damaging to the general appearance of the person. Throughout the treatment process, the patient must have someone to talk to. This is necessary so his or her feelings can be expressed accordingly.

Acne Conglobata can be physically and mentally debilitating because of the disease process that comes along with it. Examining available acne conglobata pictures will help you gain more understanding on the disease.
