2013 - The Top 10 Movies Currently In Production

2013 - The Top 10 Movies Currently In Production

By Richard Connery

2013 is turning out to be another bumper movie year with some big titles heading our way. From sequels to franchise re-births, the movies currently in production and due for release in 2014 are set to be real show stoppers. Here are 10 of the best!

The Raid 2

Filming is now underway in Indonesia on Gareth Evans's massive and explosive follow-up to hit movie 'The Raid'. This time around Iko Uwai's Rama will be drawn into dark and dangerous criminal underworld. More non-stop action is forecast and no doubt countless heads will roll.

The Monuments Men

George Clooney directs and stars alongside Hollywood heavy hitters Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett. Also featuring Jean Dujardin and John Goodman, Monuments Men is a World War II based flick about a 'culture-vulture' heist crew who plan to recover art stolen by the Nazi's. This one is highly anticipated to take off a number of Oscar's.

Pompeii

Staring the likes of Kit Harrington, Keifer Sutherland, Jessica Lucas and Emily Browning, this W.S. Anderson historical epic is set to impress with effects guru Tony Kenny (Titanic) leading the CGI production team. Filmed in Toronto, as far as fake Volcano movies go, expect this to be awash with hot molten lava.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Billed as a pre-sequel, Matt Reeves's latest offering from the Planet of the Apes franchise sees Gary Oldman, Keri Russell and Jason Clarke battling with the simian hordes some 15 years after 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'. From reports there will be no reprise role from James Franco in this latest film.

Transcendence

Who doesn't love a movie with Johnny Depp? Wally Pfister (Inception & Dark Knight) brings his considerable clout to this new Sci-fi feature. We are told to expect 'the amazing' from a seriously brilliant production team and cast including Depp, Rebecca Hall and Morgan Freeman. Can't wait for this one!

Reykjavik

Dual Oscar winner Christoph Waltz will play Mikhail Gorbachev alongside Michael Douglas's Ronald Reagan in this political drama about the 1986 Cold War summit. Directed by Mike Newell this is certain to be another movie to make the short list for best picture at next years Oscars.

Ninja Turtles

It appears that Megan Fox and Michael Bay have finally kissed and made up after their very public spat in the aftermath of the Transformers. Fox will play loveable, intrepid TV reporter April O'Neil in the Bay produced return of the ever popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. To further impress, the director who brought us Battle Los Angeles will be in the drivers seat.

Parkland

Tom Hanks is set to produce Peter Landersman's account of the day JFK was assassinated. The story will be told from various perspectives and co-star the likes of Zac Efron, Billy Bob Thornton and Australia's own Jackie Weaver. Jeremy Strong drew the short straw and plays one of America's most famous villains, Lee Harvey Oswald.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues

Ron Burgundy returns to the screen along with partners in crime Champ Kind, Brian Fantana, and Brick Tamland in this highly anticipated sequel. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are reunited along with new cast member Kristen Wiig to play the love interest for Brick. Release for The Legend Continues is earmarked as December 2013 and rumours suggest a change a change of scenery for the gang.

The Rover

It simply wouldn't be a complete list unless we included an Aussie flick, so 'The Rover' gets the nod! Animal Kingdom producer David Michod returns to tense thriller territory with this script co-authored by Joel Edgerton. Set in the near future the movie stars Guy Pierce and Robert Patterson as they track marauders through the South Australian desert. Looks to be a winner!

There are plenty of other great movies in production at present and these are just a sample of the offerings. It could easily have been a top 20 or top 50, but it's not! So if you think we missed something great (or obvious) feel free to add your thoughts in the comments section below.
