The word eclectic comes originally from the Latin legere meaning to collect, choose, assemble and French (eclectique) and Greek (ekletikos) words meaning selective, literally picking out.

Some synonyms of eclectic are:

diverse, assorted, varied, broad, all-embracing.

Antonyms include:

narrow, specific, particular, homogenous.
